Tuning a 6.0, looking for your experience

I asked Riffraff about this and Clay says a Hybrid can't run 6.0 tunes. He recommends an SCT. FYI

How to find out what tunes I have?

Sorry to be so late but I did resolve this and forgot to post the solution. It was the throttle pedal. I swapped in one from a parts truck and that solved the problem. On the bench the old one has an open spot just when you first push the pedal a little. The tunes were still jumpy though, so...

Tuning a 6.0, looking for your experience

We have 4 tuned 7.3s in the family all running Hydras, which we love. We have tunes from Gearhead, Full Force and PHP. I also have a 2004 F350 6.0 which is ARP'd and full physical deleted, legal in Texas. It's been a reliable truck except for one Furd reman HPOP and one injector, both failed. I...

Are Motorcraft Beru glow plugs still the best?

That guy who posted the FTE link has a bunch of useful knowledge about older trucks. He helped me with fuel tank issues on my e99 (obsolete 37gal tank) and pulled up old photos of exactly what I have and need. He's one of the few reasons I lurk on FTE still, despite all the guys that mostly...

Why SDs have a wimpy alternator - long post from FTE

This post really hit me because 1) we like Fords and 2) all our trucks are Fords, but FURD REALLY SCREWWS UP SOMETIMES. You should really read the FTE thread, it's long but good stuff. I'll summarize. Ford put a little alternator in the SD 7.3 to protect the GPs, which were not engineered to...

Are Motorcraft Beru glow plugs still the best?

I'm running the snowmobile relay in that truck. We keep a couple spares on the shelf. Thanks for the info

Tach CPS trick only works up to 2001, does an Edge console help?

OK guys, I watched the Edge on crank today. All three of those PIDs are alive during crank. I had to crank about 8 seconds today. (gotta get new glow plugs soon) So the big question now is this: If the CPS goes bad, would IPR, IPW, or ICP reveal that during cranking?

Are Motorcraft Beru glow plugs still the best?

Getting chilly in Texas, long crank start on my 03, already put in a new GPR, must be the plugs. I see older threads recommending Motorcraft Beru glow plugs. Just though I'd check to see if 12 years later that's still true.

Tach CPS trick only works up to 2001, does an Edge console help?

There is a tach trick that 7.3 guys know to see if the CPS has gone bad. Watch the tach while you crank. If the tach reading stays at zero when cranking, your CPS has gone north on you. Put in the known-good CPS that you keep in the glove box with a 10mm wrench. But that trick stops working...

Building a TIDI from a couple motors plus new parts

Classic Diesel Design has one TIDI parts truck but it's not torn down yet, and they are moving soon ... so I'm still looking.

Building a TIDI from a couple motors plus new parts

I still need to locate one good TIDI rod/piston. I found a +20 piston for sale on fleabay and suddenly I realized that I don't know if the donor pistons are overbore or not. My plan is to have our known low-miles IDI block sleeved to stock, then install inspected used donor TIDI pistons and...

    rear end identification

I run 80w90 too. I have a D80 in my SD350, a D135 in my SD550, and Sterlings in all the SRW trucks. The 135 gulps down 3 gallons to change. I buy 5 gal pails at Tractor Supply, and a pump from NAPA. Oil's going up, so stock up now.

Building a TIDI from a couple motors plus new parts

What do you guys think about the snail? Does it make sense to upgrade that setup on a nice TIDI build? We have a stock turbo and all the plumbing including snail. But it looks hecka restrictive. Are there any alternatives to the snail? Whatever I do, it needs to fit under a standard Bricky...

Who are our resident expert parts vendors?

I tried another browser and it worked. He has some tight security on his site. Maybe he got hacked in the past.

ProtonVPN comes free with email, but just one VPN conx. We went ahead and joined Proton premium, got 12 conx to share in the fam. FYI

Building a TIDI from a couple motors plus new parts

Your "no" is to the big question is do they weigh the same? That doesn't surprise me. I might have to buy a whole set from Justin.

That site seems to be down. Justin, are you out there? I may need some of your fine machined PSD rods for a TIDI build

Engine randomly accelerates, but only on rear tank

Let's face it, we really are aliens in this disposable, fallen culture. With our 30-40 year noisy old trucks that will survive an EMP or Carrington event. I'd feed 50 liters into my HDJ80 in a French supermarket parking lot so I could use their dumpster. Imagine the looks I got.

Building a TIDI from a couple motors plus new parts

At some point I heard that Justin from R&D IDI offers machined PSD forged rods for TIDI application. The big question is do they weigh the same? If not it would throw off balance. If they weigh the same I could put one in. Sure it's a cheap move, but I can't see a reason why it wouldn't work...

    Fuel Sending Unit

We got some from RockAuto, some from NAPA. Both are reasonable prices. We routinely toss the front tank and run off a deep 38gal back tank or a 100gal bed tank. Too much trouble with dual tanks. And the tank pickups break off part way down. If you ever need a SD fuel pickup, better sit down...

    Zf5-42 conversion

We've done three ZF conversions now. Never needed a new crossmember. Did have to drill one in a Bullnose. But you may need a new driveshaft. We had to cobble up a frankenstein shaft from parts trucks for our last ZF conversion into an 89 C6. It's 1" too short and not balanced well so I plan to...

Engine randomly accelerates, but only on rear tank

I ran 50% SVO for years in France. Hard core WVO, WMO, and SVO guys over there swear by heaters in the fuel circuit. I didn't see any mention of that. Some heat the alternative oil tank too, run on diesel for a while until the waste oil tank heats up. FYI Fun fact: Socialist France puts guys...

Cruise Control Quit after Hydroboost Conversion

Another oddity about hydroboosts. One of my sons works FT as a wrench. He's seen Aeronoses come in with stock hydroboost on them. Others have vacuum boost. Go figure. Furd is weird sometimes.
