    Hypermax turbo

Don't forget to take out the little retaining bolt that holds the up-pipe in the turbo mount. If it doesn't want to come out, this could be why.

    Is My IP Turned Up?

Our dyno tests back at the 10th annual IDI Weekend revealed 8.5 to 9.5 degrees to be the sweet spot. Any more or less, and you give up performance. The thing you have to remember about playing with your fuel screw, is it messes with the internal timing curve as well, which pretty much messes...

    Quick question on injector pump

If it doesn't click, that usually means the head and rotor have seized and the drive shaft snapped.

    94 F250 7.3 Sitting for 15 years

OK, so here is what is most likely the situation. Your pump stopped on a high cam position which pushed the plungers in. Now, 15 years later, they are glued in place. Short of getting a new pump, you can try one thing. Take the pump off the engine, find a way to hold it, and find a way to...

    RV/7-Blade Round Plug Mounting

Don't have a picture, but our 93' F-350 has it in the bed pillar by the tailgate, drivers side, about half way up. Makes it easy to get the back to by removing the left rear turn/light assembly.

Will a fuel level sensor from a gas truck work on a diesel

A gasser sender will work fine. The only real difference is the gasser pickups do not have a return line fitting. What I have done without issue in the past, is drill out the rollover valve and use that as your fuel return. The key issue is to stick with a model year pickup for your model...

    fuel tank over pressurized

If you are implying that exhaust gasses are getting into the tank through a stuck injector, I'd have to say that I don't think that is possible. For one, the hot gasses would melt the return line and cap. Two, the injection line would burn the paint off of it, and lastly there is clearly a...

    Noob question #2643

Turbo drain back is an important thing not to monkey with too much. Trying an AN fitting or something like that, you could end up with a small diameter hole that may not drain fast enough. Remember, even though the supply line is small, that oil is under pressure. The drain must have zero...

    Timing problems

If that is a white/blue smoke that smells sweet and burns your eyes, that would be a timing issue usually. No, normally these trucks run with a clear exhaust at idle, and when your cruising with minimal load. At night, with a light shining on them, the exhaust is much more visible.

    Stupid turbo question

If you try anything fancy with your turbo drain, just know that no part of the drain system should be higher than where the turbo drain outlet hole is. Otherwise, you will leak oil out of the turbo shaft.

    No Power To FSS?

Key on power is usually a green wire with a red stripe. If you apply power manually to the IP connector with a jumper wire, and hear the glow plug controller energize, then that wire is not getting power from the chassis.

    Timing problems

With regard to the timing light, or any timing method using a line clamp, it's not uncommon for readings to become erratic at higher RPM's. The technology works by sensing a capacitance change in the steel. This occurs because the line swells a little bit with each injection. It doesn't...

    my 6.9 is very sluggish

Did ANYBODY read his post? He said "Even in park." Sounds like your IP is gummed up. Have you been running funny fuels? How many miles are on the IP and injectors? If around 100K, it's time for a refresh.

Cant get 7.3 IDI to idle under 900 RPM

Dirty filter, timing, etc, will NOT fix your problem. What is most likely happening here is a worn metering valve, and you have fuel sneaking around the valve and getting to the head. If the truck used to idle properly, and no longer does, it is unfortunately just a factor of wear.

Why does my rebuilt turbo from Conestoga diesel have a bent/broken housing?

When we rebuild a turbo, we have to work with the cores we are sent. Some are better then others, admittedly. We wish they all looked perfect. When we rebuild, we consider how the turbo will WORK. If we deem a part suitable for service, then it goes together and we warranty it. Sure, we...

Black smoke after injection pump and new injectors

Check your air intake for restrictions and keep an eye on your EGT's. If you feel it is running differently then it did when you first put it in, certainly something has changed.

Does injection pump allow fuel through return with key on and electric pump?

The primary pump in the IP does a pretty good job of blocking fuel flow when the pump is not rotating. Some will slip by, but not in great quantity. I could take a really long time for fuel to appear at the pump return. The problem with not having a place for air to bleed off between the lift...
