why do older F250's have a 300 I6
I had a 91 f250 4x4 with the straight 6 and a zf5. Best damn truck I ever owned, and I kick myself every day for selling it. injection pump bad??
I'd check the fuel pressure at the filter head. Every time my truck loses a lift pump, the power drops off the face of the earth. If it has good fuel pressure, IP sounds about right.- mrbrink

I have replaced all of the rubber lines with diesel rated line. I tried testing my old pump, the arm just wiggled around, it wasn't working the diaphram at all. Whatever now though, hopefully I'll never have to deal with one again ;Sweet- mrbrink

Took nearly 4 hours but got the job done. I bypassed the mechanical pump, and on the frame right after the tanks I mounted a facet posi-flo pump. PN 6101050, it is rated for 5-7psi and 34 gph. While I was there, I bypassed the water seperator and cleaned up the fuel system a little. I just wired...- mrbrink

460 gas mileage vs 5.4
awful was my last truck. It was an 85 chevy 4x4 dually with a stretched frame, 12' flatbed, 8" lift on 37" hummer tires. Had a very worn out 454 on 4 speed stick. Got a flat 3 mpg, even worse if I put my foot in it. I could go through 80 bucks of gas a day staying within 20 miles of my house...- mrbrink

Another member on here thought I may have a problem with the cam lobe. But the weird thing is, when I pull these pumps out, the arm is still fine. One had alot of slack in it, but the others didn't. I will give this truck one thing...its sure taught me how to do road side fixes to get home. Had an idea on the electric pump. I have a set of cheap driving lights on my front bumper that are on a switch in the cab. I could mount a pump on the frame where the rubber pig tail line is for the...- mrbrink

Tomorrow in the day light I'll put some pics up...I did it myself with a sawzall and a crappy wire welder so I gotta do some grinding and painting to make it look good...shoulda paid more attention in geometry back in high school... Took the truck into town today, ran great the entire time. Got my new 5" CAT stack in, and went for the test drive when it started surging really bad and smoking, then completely died. Fuel filter was empty. Re-primed it with the filter primer and got it running and had no fuel pressure...- mrbrink

Possible air leak solution?
I'm going to try that today. I just replaced the factory unit with a new one that has a primer on it, but I suppose anything could leak- mrbrink

Well I replaced that pig tail hose and the lift pump not even a month ago...but air in the fuel lines was the first thing that happened when the last one went out...guess I'll just wait and see. I'll go electric this time around if the pump is on its way out- mrbrink
