I just bought our 5th wheel from those guys. In Lakeview. They have a website rvwholesalers.com. They were great to deal with, and it makes me glad to see them helping in this way.
I got ~8mpg towing my 5th (9,000 lbs), so 12 might be a little bit high. You are lighter, but have the C6...
anyone ever gotten their motor timed who has the old square banks turbo? It almost completely covers the IP, and seems like it would have to be removed to do the timing job. I know it was NOT fun putting that thing on, and I dread having to remove it.
If you did get it done, did they charge...
I've only heard of using a cooler t-stat when your engine is already running at the t-stat temp consistently and you want cooler temps. If you can't get it to stay at the 192 temp, then how is having a t-stat that stays open at 180 going to help? I think it's a load of crap.
But, it could...
If your 192 degree t-stat is working properly, and your water is still getting hotter than 192, I don't see how a 180 will change anything at all. It will open at 180, so might take 2-3 minutes longer to get hot. Have you boil tested your current t-stat to make sure it is opening properly?
I just took my first road trip with my turbo installed, and guess what, my column now gets hot too. Didn't do it before the turbo, so I can only assume the extra piping that goes up past the firewall is to blame. I'm going to try to get some more heat shield on it to see if it solves the...
Mike, my Tru-cool 4590 blocks a good amount of the radiator. It increased water temps a little. About 1/2 a letter in the word NORMAL on the factory guage. That said, it dropped my trans temp by 20-30*.
Here is a pic of it installed: Installed
I plan to move it to the left a little to...
Everything I've read said at 220 in the hot line is when you should start worrying. I regularly see 190 going up hills unloaded, and mine is in the hot line. Cruising on flat road it hovers around 170-180. I have mine mounted in the exact same oil filter as you do Mike.
They come up on ebay regularly:

On Edit:
My apologies. The ebay link I posted is for stock height, and you wrote that you have a 4" lift.
What is the proper usage for Red Dyed fuel? Where is it sold? This is the first I've ever heard of it. All fuel I see at service stations is taxed, and not dyed.
When I set mine, it slows down about 5 mph before "grabbing". But, once it grabs, it stays there. Accel/Resume doesn't work. It just surges.
I just chalked it up to this truck being an old fart, but I'll look at it once I get the big stuff out of the way. It's a minor annoyance. I know...
Thanks Mel,
Glad to know about that site now. I'd be happy to host pics/vids of your trucks. Just PM me if you need it, and I'll give you info.
Is this a taboo subject over at TDS? I think my post got deleted.
--on edit--
No, it isn't delted, just was buried. Anyway, glad to know...
Posted on TDS as well.
I have a web server at my disposal, and it allows plenty of bandwidth. I've spent a couple months on the TDS board and a few weeks here, and received a wealth of help. It is truly an amazing community I am happy to be a part of.
That said, one of the ways many of you...
Thanks Mel, found the article. More good stuff there!
Does anyone happen to have the instruction manual for the old Banks Sidewinder non-wastegated they could send me a copy of?
