Hey there, I just picked up my first diesel, 1987 F-350 6.9 IH 4WD
The front leaf springs are flattened out, and I could be terribly wrong, but I'm pretty sure they're done for. The ones I'm looking at are Dayton, any brand recommendations? Also for shocks.
Thanks for any help guys!

these springs do flatten out.
i just put new ones on, from e-bay and there pretty flat, some arc, but not much
wont hurt to get new ones.
i say if you want to do springs, do a reverse shackle kit.
DIY RSK can be done cheaply.

shocks = Blistens

I had mine re arched, maybe not a permanent solution but it's been fine and the guy that did them said they should stay like that for awhile.

f350 solid front axle generally have two layer leaf springs that have a hint of an arch to flat. F250 IFS axles look wiped out from the factory. those you measure 1/2" off the bump stop and that is wore out.

That's mine.
Does an RSK kit require welding or cutting?

yep pretty normal.
an expensive RSK will bolt in,
but i would advise cutting and welding.

Think an amateur mig welder get up and a Sawzall could do it?

stop.
there's something not right about the springs.
you're also missing the track bar mount and track bar.
i will post pics later of what you should be seeing.

Those almost have a negative arch.
Also seeing the half a foot of blocks makes me cringe.

Yeah, I didn't know if the stacks were a problem or not, cuz I dunno what I'm looking at. And I figured the springs were shot. I'd guess they could be the originals. Would an RSK make up for taking the blocks off?

You have a mini pack installed under the springs. Center pin goes through them all. Nothing wrong with a mini pack. Now as towcat said you are missing a track bar.

They'll probably be fine.
Some people just way over do it. Blocks on top of blocks on top of blocks. Lol

What's a track bar? And what would I see/hear different since it's missing?

Compare this to you truck. The track bar does seem to be missing. Google is your friend.

I have the blue arrow, but not the orange.

So, can a cheap little MIG welder rig do the job for an RSK install?

All of the leaf springs I'm finding online look pretty flat, with the exception of the lift kit ones. Is that how they're supposed to be? I thought they were supposed to be more curved, like the rear springs? Thanks again!
