Any tips on this? Can't get the ignition key switch out and I like my 86 column better so pretty much just unbolt and go? Pics would help also. Thanks

I want to take the complete column out and and replace with a column from my 86

Good Morning Ya'll.
To take the key switch out. If you have a schroud on it, take it off, turn the key switch back to ACC. on the underside of the switch is a little hole, stick something in there and push up on the pin, pull switch out.

Key switch is F'ed up its not coming off without a fight.
Also the Po spiced the wiring from the horn and cruise. And I believe the actuator is broke off too.

What I meant was, are you putting a 86 column into a obs or something?

No puting the one from my 86 on the 85. Looks like 4 bolts to the cab?

Oh, okay. Should work fine. I haven't pulled that year, so can't say on the number of bolts.

You are going to have to separate the steering shaft from the column on the engine side. If I recall there is a bolt and clip. You need to take out the bolts holding the plate the column goes through at the firewall, as well as the ones holding the column to the dash. There is a large wiring harness plug near the base of the column. That is the actual ignition switch. The switch is connected to the lock cylinder by a rod that can stay in place.

those columns are really easy to swap, I think a few screws and 6 or 7 bolts, some wires and its out.

Two bolts up under dash 5 bolts to fire wall 1 bolt on steering shaft 1 electrical connection...bobs yer uncle n done

a half round for turnsignal switches and then the one on the box.
they are the same as a brick nose.
hardest part is finding the 16" long extension and a 10 mm socket.
