I have found a truck with a C6+GV and my current truck is an E4OD. What sort of challenges can I expect if I were to swap these transmissions?

*Sighs* Sorry, but you'd be stuck with a truck that doesn't have transmission failures at random and at an early age.

Wouldn't you miss the flashing OD light?

I can deal with those trade offs. Still befuddles me how Ford can go from the C6 to the E4OD

Which rearend gears do you have? I just did a 5 speed to C6 and Gear vendor swap in my 89 and it works fine but with my 4.10 gears, I'm screaming at 75.
Still all in all, I like it and the C6 is a great stout transmission.

It's a disposable world we live in today. Things are not made to last, by design. Companies and governments do not benefit from lack of sales and the revenues not generated because of things that last.

Hate to say this, but your fuel economy is going to suffer a bit. Even with a low stall torque converter, your engine is still going to be spinning faster than it would have at the same speed without that lockup torque converter. That said, I'd still do that swap. My C6 was totally trouble free, and Darrin Tosh had the C6/GV combo and seemed to do real well with it.

No knock against the C6 but an E4OD built right is much better tranny. Better gear ratio and a lock up converter are a big advantage over the C6 set up.

Is there a specific rebuild kit for the diesel C6? Is there a difference between a gasser C6 and diesel C6?

I couldn't agree more. When I bought my truck it came with a C6, gear venders and 4:10s. I ended converting it to a E40D, big difference.

I definitely appreciate your input for sure, I always do. The knowledge on here is amazing and the atmosphere is truly unique for the Internet lol
Some context is in order for my thinking. I bought an IDI because I really wanted a diesel and think it fits my needs and future needs. I got the IDI because I'm a Ford guy too. Most specifically, I got an IDI because of its simplicity and lack of computer controls. I figure a man can actually work on it, especially with you guys around. I ended up with an E4OD because that's what I could find in an IDI F250. I purposely got one without a turbo as well.
I don't do a lot of long driving and I ain't in any hurry lol
I need simplicity and my truck to work, do work, and be able to be worked on by me.

I wanted a ZF5 4x4 but that wasn't forth coming in my area. I would still have the idea of doing both with this truck, unless I get a stunning deal on another truck, but for now I am okay with replacing the E4OD with a C6+GV

I would myself, I hate the E40D, I won't own another one. If I ever get another truck with one again I'll upgrade to a manual or C6 myself. Hell, I'd take a Hydroglide over an E4OD.

But I understand some guys like them. Having overdrive to them means putting up with a weak transmission is worth it and that's fine, to each their own. ;Sweet
