Looks to be coming along. Slowly but surely.
Thanks yer right slow n sure

Ya I chisel away a wee bit at a time, between a few projects, slowly getting them together...Like checking the spare rear diff so I can have it ready to install shortly...

Take apart the winch so I can see what's wrong...and have it ready to install in this bumper for example...

Try and find that damn 38 gallon tank measurement...

tis just chip away here n there scatter brained like I am... LOL

Oh and just about got my SC ready to pull from the frame so I can start prep to install on the white rhino ...woo hoo!

Yep, I'm sort of a project ***** myself, always starting on something else before I finish the last one.
Oil changes take me about an hour because of it. LOL

I'm waiting to see the final project to get ideas for mine.

Your making progress! Keep it up, sounds like it will be plenty beefy.

Ya the front one is next to get the love of the grinder to clean up the craptastic stuff there, and now with the new 3/8" plate I'm likely going to start fresh with it too...remove the current mount setup and then make new ones from 3/8 plate.

I'll get pics as I fab that up. Should be good tough setup...just need some 3"x3"x3/8" angle, four 42" long pieces for my winch mounts to complete each setup.

Ok first the good deal on engine hoist, some great deals on tools and such, now this, ;Sweet
I think the OB needs you to write up a "how to on getting good deals" and put it in the tech area.
You have a gift man.
I think the bumper & stuff has a Mad Max look to it. Like it.;Sweet;Sweet:D

Um NOPE...fuel tank and axle to deal with back there too....I'fn I go PTO, I'll try do a hydraulic setup for power in power out....Though 5 speeds forward and one reverse works nice too!

Hard to say, but I like idea of Front PTO myself!

some years back!!!!! there were a lot of front mounted winches on fords..mostly 2w's tho....lot of them were pierce winches...tho i did see a few on 4x4's.....

riot!!! you know,,those BIIIIIIIG gaps,,you want to weld shut?????????? lay the bumper,so the welds will be done flat......get a USED piece of 3/4 copper tubing....mash that sucker,,FLAT..now, take that piece,,and lay it under the gap,,and take your choice of welder,,and make the number of passes to close it shut...the copper,,will keep it from falling thru,,unless you purposely try to burn thru the copper..the DIRTY copper..will keep the weld from sticking to the copper...kool, no????

Thanks for that tip, I had to cut out the schmeg craptastic welds that where in there, cracked and all that. I used an 1/8" grinder disc and cut straight through...should be ok but that copper is an old school trick I've heard before and forgot about, never tried it though..I"ll hunt a chunk down Thanks!

I plan on doing all the inside channel welds first where the gap is narrowest. Then flip the bumper a couple times as I do the opposite sides and fill..There is not much to this as it's not holding any real pressure. The winch will be settled in between the frame mounts on it's own cradle and the bumper is just a facade so to speak. The winch won't mount to the bumper in other words.

You'll all see, wife left me gas so I'll fire up peanut the welder soon enough! Hopefully I won't make chickenshit welds...where it looks like ya grab the chickens neck...squeeze down on body and what ***** out on the weld is whatcha got...aka chickenshit welds! That's what I just cut out..LOL

Again thanks for that copper tip. I'll make sure I"ve got a small piece when I start this.

Front bumper torched out and I'm still not certain on the current setup..I really think the 3/8" plate is way to go and replace these 1/4" plates. I'll retain the front mounts that bolt to the front of the frame horns, I like that but I want to add the full side plates like in these pics in comparison to what's currently on my truck.

So out with the narrow mounts for what ever they fit, that leaves the current setup that fits my truck.

Now NO narrow mount to interfere with my plans, however I'm still thinking hmmm

The frame horn tabs I am talking about. I like this idea however I'd likely think of a bit different method.

Here you can see how my current setup mounts like the above frame horn ends...but no plate to side of frame..it works..just NOT WELL IMHO

The bumper as it sits with narrow brackets removed

So now I can add in the 8" wide 3/8" plate, this is what I want to make for frame plates that bolt to the frame side and protrude forward and rearward respectively for front and rear bumpers, then a small portion poking through the channel iron for a D ring attachment.

That's where I am now, I'll drop my OBS clip on my 90 Bronco, and test fit this bumper on that truck to see how it fits and adjust mounts as needed!

Thanks for looking

EDIT,

Just found this ..18,000 lbs pull 12K on last layer of drum -Drool http://www.engousa.com/p/model-eh18000?pp=12 ..ya offshore but originated by Mile Marker CEO's two of them...and from reviews I read on electric models they support their product very well.

That would make an excellent rear winch eh? Hell and Front too...LOL

Just sayin n dreamin

Ok, update,

Took and dug out Peanut, the welder and started working on the rear bumper. I used ARCTEC 222 rod IIRC and wow...nice stuff! burns smooth, and strikes super easy too.

So here a couple shots of the Ole girl, that :love:SuperWifey fondly calls Peanut, and then some shots of the bumper...

Peanut under my shelf...

This label here shows it as a Princess Auto welder, this would be the same as Harbour Freight in the US, however this is OLD like when Moses parted the sea...old...so it's not cheapanese made it's very well built!

And the amperage of the unit...NOTICE MAX whatever MAX is...LOL

Well that's what I have to work with and here is what I accomplished today amongst other things..

These are just shots of what I did, IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER...

And not that it matters cause I didn't take pics, but I did get my jack stands leveled off by cutting off one U on the top of the inside tube and flipping the tube end for end and rewelding the U back on it. THEY are now about 1/4 " different instead of 2" different in height pin for pin setting.

Thanks for looking, comments welcome!

You are right wanting 3/8 on those brackets . I have no idea why so many winch bumpers have 1.4" brackets. Mine came that way, so when I had to modify it to fit my truck, I made them in 1.4 and those suckers bent like wet bread in a little bump
Ive been in a bit of the same boat. I havent been able to decide weather I want to replace the brackets, make a new bumper, or make a new bumper for the 12,500 lb Pierce I hace in my carhauler and switch it out for the 10k Warn on the front of teh truck

If I have my druthers....and I do...I druther have a well engineered OVER BUILT bumper that well...won't bend than a POS that gets tweaked first time it's used hard.

I'm reconsidering my thoughts on D ring mounts now cause a friend who got me some of the correct Angle Iron made a suggestion. To fab in PIN receivers, in essence just like on the front bumper of a Semi where I slip in a recovery strap and drop the big PIN or insert Chain etc. Plus that allows pulling at an angle where as D rings don't like angular pulls....Hmm....How about a bit of both?

The D rings where easier to fab in and make strong, so now to engineer a pin setup as strong or stronger!

Regardless, ya 3/8 plate is a better plan for mounts, and if I had a bunch of plate, I'd do a whole custom front bumper instead of this channel iron setup, but, but...I gots what I gots, and make the best of it.

Thanks Robert for the support of thicker better thought...
