My truck never warms up past 160*. I'll bet there's a RobertShaw that's all blow-up in there (from P.O.). I just got one from International yesterday...$38 out the door...are you saying I should cut the rubber off before I install?

Why do some sources list E5TZ8575B and RT1048 and some sources list E5TZ8575C and RT1049? Why do all the pics show the Robertshaw type body without the lower valve?

I'm running a high flow GENUINE Robertshaw too and no problems here either. Before I put that thing in , I went after it with a micrometer and measured every bit of it hot and cold and aside from being about a half mm SHORTER on full extension ( which doesnt make much different because these stat designs do little to close off bypass ports anyway, and the half mm could have been the amount it sucked in aafter being pilled out of the boiling water while I was fitting the caliper on it even though it only took a few seconds, thats kind of tricky ) and not having the rubber ring ( which I would have cut off anyway for more flow ) the two stats had identical dimensions. There was absoloutely nothing that could cause a problem anywhere.
I'm afraid the ones that you guys are getting burned on are kung fu clones, which is what you are most likely to find at most parts stores anyways.

Just ordered my NEW FORD thermostat...they got's it on hold at Skaha Ford....was $39.?? and I as always I asked if he can sharpen his pencil for me on that price, immediate answer was $30.51, guys...never pay retail...always ask for them to sharpen their pencil...they have the power to offer a better deal to you.
Just saying...OH and when it's here this weekend...I'll be doing an install picturorial too as per usual!

Better be careful doing that. Try that around here and all they would do is wipe the vaseline off the thing before they ram it to ya
, They'd sharpen it alright 
Local ford dealers all charge 3x list around here have to get all dealer parts from IH or out of state ford dealers

When Robert says a Genuine Robertshaw I'm kinda wondering if Robertshaw is the oem maker of our motorcraft thermostats... I know what I use is a factory item but wondering if so is the robertshaw... I know the rubber ring disturbes the coolant flow and actually cuts it down because the rubber expands to keep the stat closed as its going open. I leave the rubber thats glued to the base but cut off the "valve seal" part of it.
Riot, Just don't do what I did! I took everything apart to do the t-stat install---buttoned her all back up and started cleaning up my tools. After everything was put away I realized I installed the new gasket and not the t-stat 
Had to pull it all back apart DOH! ;p

At least if I do make that mistake...I'll have the pics to prove it!
From what I saw, I'm pretty sure that they went to Robertshaw as the OEM supplier and just had them make the ones for the IDI to their specs with the extra seal to make sure they would warm up faster. The factory isnt going to make their own stats, and they certainly werent going to go overseas at that time, that annoying trend hadnt caught on yet

I kinda agree with you Robert.. What happens these days is horrible to say the least... Shopping by looking at where it came from or where it was grown is something I do everytime these days... I wonder when the refinerys are going to ship raw crude "over there" to refine it and then ship finished gas or diesel back here... Import diesel or gasolene... I feel its coming... Our poor engines will be drinking a offshore diesel made in india or some other thrid world country...
