I have a 93 f350 7.3 ATS turbo w/e4od . 40,000+- 0n engine and tranie.
seems the farther I drive the hotter it gets. I have an after market temp gauge on which I've seen 235* The indash gauge pretty much corresponds with mechanical gauge. I have a new aluminum radiator, Just rebuilt the oil cooler, replaced the water pump, compaired 3 Ford thermostats in boiling water, all open at 195*,no bubbles in coolant overflow tank, New green antifreeze w/ dca, EGT never more than 1100* up hill at 70mph, I use the power stroke oil filter for the extra capacity, I eliminated the fan clutch, I never loose coolant, 50# oil pressure @ 2000 rpm. I did lose the little ball bearing in the thermostat bypass. I've pressure washed the trannie cooler and the ac condenser. Any one have any suggestions? I'm stumped.

Wow. You've done a lot already to try and figure out what is going on. All the basics seem to be covered. More science will be required beyond this point. It would be nice to know what your radiator inlet, versus outlet temps would be, what the flow rate is, and perhaps what your oil temps are. Not sure how your going to go about gathering that info though.

With a non-contact Laser Thermometer. Radiator upper tank--Lower tank. Oil filter, Oil pan top, Oil pan bottom, average of top and bottom. Exhaust manifolds, left and right at the exit. Heads, left and right. If you can measure the air temp, engine side, thru the radiator, maybe on the fan hub. On a dyno @ 60 MPH. That aught to tell you something. Not really feasible, but how else can it be done? Run her and jump out, get a few measurements?

You have done plenty so far. My question is how did you "fix" the fan clutch....

My first IDI truck, the '86 would overheat just like this, slowly over a long period of time, usually in the summer... I found the lower radiator hose was replaced without having the spring installed inside, by the previous owner. Only way I caught it was when I pulled over once to see why it was so hot, I felt the hoses... the top was very hot and felt like a chubby girl getting ready to burst out of a tube top... the bottom was all skinny and sucked up...

Ya know, I was just thinking about that while reading your post about your t'stat. Good shot, that could be very well his problem.

I cut in half with a sawsall. there is a disc inside that I thru bolted to the back half of the body. Started out I was just curious about what was inside. As fof my overheating, I'm woundering about IP timing. I don't know if that would effect it or not.. More studying ahead....

Ive got a bigass bumper on the front. Maybe I could get someone to ride out there and take some readings. Nice 100* days ,they wouldn"t get cold...

Do you still have the shroud in place?

Does your transmission cooler still run into the bottom of the radiator tank?

If so, which cooler is 'first' to be cooled? I mention this because I have experienced a similar problem- ended up that the trans was heating up the cooling system. I put in a larger aux trans cooler that did not go through the radiator and all was well again.

the shroud is still in place, I thinlk that is a must. the transmission lines d go to the radiator first and then to the external cooler. I have a larger cooler and will try moving it off the radiator. Thats a good idea, thanks. I shot the oil filter today after some mild in town driving, and while the water temp was 205* the the filter was at 235* Jegs has an external oil cooler available that will work, but it won"t be in stock until the first week of August. By the time I gert it on and a larger transmission cooler I may have to move my grill out in front of my brush guard bumper. I guess an intercooler is out of the question.
