A day or two ago I was asked a question about the installation of the rods in our idi engines. It was which way do they go in. Is the pin end balance weight face the outside of the cylinder or the inside towards the cam.... Well I had to really think about this one. So I got dressed and went out to find my turbo rods and have a look. The rod orintation in the block will have the pin balance weights facing the cam or the inside of the cylinder. All the idi rods will be the same. Look closely at them and you will see one side has a larger chamfer than the other side as it connects the crank bearing in pairs. The small chamfer faces the companion rod and the large chamfer faces the bearing radius on the crank faces. It wont matter if you turn the rod pairs around either. The large balance lug still faces the cam or the inside of the cylinder. Also these rods have a slight offset to them so they fit the crank differantly if you mess up and install them wrong.. Just some helpful information for all...
