I only have the money for one at the moment. So would you get a Ferret timing adapter (dont have a fancy timing light, but i figured out 9/16" before the TDC mark is 9° BTDC) or should i get a pyro?

I have a factory set Pensacola Diesel reman IP, and no immediate plans to turn it up. I am getting some smoke though at any throttle pos except cruising or less.

Edit: The bacon vote is a joke. Please vote your actual choice in addition to Bacon... :D

Hey man i love bacon. but i like that green stuff in my wallet better so i would want a tool that could help maximize my mpg rather than a tool that tells me how much more i can tun my fuel up which in turns take that green stuff out of my wallet.LOL;Sweet

Am i the only one that did not vote for bacon?:rotflmao
I didn't vote for bacon LOL I'm generally not much for pork products; never really cared for the taste of dead pig...prefer the taste of dead cow :D

IMHO a timing adapter is a good tool to have, but I think the pyrometer's more imperative...keep in mind, even on a stock n/a engine, it's possible to get the exhaust temps dangerously close to the temperature at which you start melting things. IMHO a pyro should be mandatory equipment on ALL diesels...I would get the pyro first, then save up for a timing meter, and then you can go clog your arteries all you want :D

Just my $.02...

If you have a Pensacola pump, don't be surprised if you can't get a stable pulse reading off the thing. We had one where we couldn't get a stable pulse reading off the blamed thing, it was wandering all over the place. Tried it on different cylinders to see if it was the injector and that wasnt the case, it was the fresh rebuilt pump from pensacola -cuss

Hog, Cattle, Poultry, Rabbit, Squirrel, Deer all taste great to me.;Lick

I agree with you 100%. It's nice to time your truck. But, once you do it, you don't need to again for a long time. But, you'll use that pyro every time you get in the truck and it's information can save a catastrophic failure.
