What type of IDI should I buy?

Well I honestly don't know what to buy
I've been told to buy a gasser, because I won't be towing much, but I'm gonna be doing a fair amount of driving, and haulling

I would look for 3:55 gears and an overdrive in your case. A fresh e4od would be optimal for a shush box or the zf 5 speed. 15-20mpg's compared to a 460's 7-10. A 4 speed with a gearvendor's od would work. The 3 speed C6 has much respect from me but just doesn't do a diesel justice with no OD and no locking torque converter, especially for highway travel.

I happen to like the bricknose but would say that a 93-94 will be your best bet. Just the newer the less rust, wear and tear. The TTB f-250 fronts should suffice if stock tire size is retained even though I prefer a solid axle. I am not even sure that the TTB wouldn't be cheaper to overhaul vs the king pin D60. 35" or bigger tires or severe work duty definitely warrent a D60.

I hated them for years until I drove my "new" one. It is growing on me very quickly. I have come to realize it was an unjustified and irrational hate, the bricknose is just another step in F-series evolution, like a Truck Neaderthal.
All I know is this one drives better than any Ford truck I've been in. And likewise, Neaderthals probably weren't pretty but darned if they couldn't kick some mammoth ass.

Piece of crap, but when you drove it, was like the funnest thing on the road, plus if you got into a car crash you'd survive, and the other people would get every bone smashed! XD

You'd be lookin about 150 bucks for a columb from a junk yard I'd keep looking for a 4x4truck to there out there just gotta look hard just bought my first one an86 with a6.9 it's 4x4 and dually got it'd for 900bucks with 130,000 miles

Yeah thats actually what I want, a IDI or turbo diesel, stick, 4x4 long box, all the good stuff

My advise is keep looking check local farms with old trucks most farmers had these alot of the time these trucks have been forgotten and are stuck behind the barn look around and dnt be afraid to ask if they'd be willing to sell

I wasn't able to buy a diesel truck, but I'm more than happy with what I got
For a 1000 bucks I got myself a 1990 F150 Reg Cab, short box with a 5 speed, and a 4.9L I6
Great little truck!

4.9 six is a great engine in its way. Not the raw power of a diesel, but a trooper of an engine that just keeps going and going...

The 300 { 4.9 } is a bullet-proof engine!! Not big horsepower but monster torque. With the 5 spd. it should do a good job. Cold air intake and exhaust and I think you'll be impressed with it. Probably never see 20 mpg but I have nothing but good to say about a 300. Congrats!!!
