My ignition has been replaced by me, but I still have the original locks. So now I need 2 keys. I seen on rock auto they have different keys with different cuts. Mine being an H cut. If I buy a H cut ignition does that mean there the same keys m as in I can go back to using one key?

NO. the only way to use one key to work the door and ignition is to match the tumbles in the door locks to match your ignition key

The ignition works off the front portion of the key and the door lock works off the back portion and they share one common section of the key so if you buy a lock cylinder with h code and the common pin is a h then the back cuts of your old key can be cut on to new key and it will open the doors and work ignition but of you purchase the wrong one the ignition will have to be rekeyed to work with door locks which is way cheaper than re keying the door to match ignition.

OK the current ignition key only has the tip ground down. Can I get the back portion ground to match the back portion of the door key? I just really want to only have one key.

This statement is not necessarily correct! See BELOW!

I just really want to only have one key.

Ok simple really simple to do. As long as both keys physically fit into the door and ignition this is a really simple fix. Trust me I have done this 3 times and it works.

Cut one key with one complete side as the door, then have the key cutter person flip the blank over and cut the ignition side into the other half of the blank.

All you need to do is try the key one way for door, flip it for IGN! I just filed some grooves on the key ring end on one side so I knew which way I used it for Door or Ign.

The only time this cannot work is when you have the two opposite keys looking at the end.

Some Doors or glove box keys are different or trunk keys for cars oppositely made looking at the end.

Try this for the price of a key cut and see how easy and well it works!!!!

When I bought my truck, the ignition had been replaced an the PO gave me two keys. For a while I used one for the doors, one for the ignition. Then one day I made a mistake and put the door key in the ignition, and it turned! The correct ignition key does not work in the doors. I've just been using the one key ever since. No idea why that works, but maybe you could at least try if the same happens to you.
