another cowl induction believer

ive been wanting to do a cowl induction for some time. finally got around to it last week. i was balking at the $86 hypermax kit then realized with my hydroboost i could just use a 4" hole saw and a 4" dust collection hose coupler! it fit perfectly! i got to use it yesterday on a short trip to haul a buddies broke down truck. before i could hardly make 7 psi working the balls off it now i can hit 10 psi without much trouble! pulls much better and egts are better but not quite like i hoped. i pulled a grade in 5th with about 9500#s that ive always had to drop to 4th before. it was working but not struggling! best NO MONEY ive ever not spent!

The increase in boost is enough to make me want to try it out! However I will have to just buy it from Hypermax. I would also like to try out their smoke puffer eliminator, it seems that it would save a little on fuel.

Heck yea, Im a believer...3 more psi and way lower egts. Pulling 8000lbs. It should have been the very first thing I did to the truck.

I'm not questioning how well the mod you did worked in any way, but it's been in the back of my mind to make a ram air hood myself for a while now and curious if anyone has made one or bought one and if so what it did...

I believe BioFarmer made a ram air setup for his truck.....I think there's pics of it under the "Which type of intake is better?" Thread....
I think DragRag also did the ram air on his van if I'm not mistaken....

Sounds like I may wanna think a little harder about doing this mod, I've kinda just been passive with the idea.

One question; Since you are running the intake into the same chamber that supplies the fresh air to the HVAC system of the truck, does anyone notice any smell drifting into the cowl after the engine is turned off? By smell, I mean any diesel smell or any crankcase/oil smell from the cdr drifting up through the aircleaner, and into the cowl area.

Sounds like it works well, and I have been thinking about doing it, but I know how you guys sometimes forget to mention little quirks and unexpected surprises that come up sometimes with these modifications. I believe I read one thread where a noticed difference is an increase in intake noise with this mod correct?

I've been wanting to do some kind of ram-air or cowl induction mod for a while. My main concern is water getting in...is it a problem with this set-up? Bear in mind I live in the rainiest city in the lower 48...I regularly sit at traffic lights during torrential downpours and drive through 1-2' flooded roads. I've been afraid that an intake at the front would not like puddles and one at the cowl would not like the downpours?

seems like a hole in the bottom of the air box would solve your problem...

I have never read anywhere what the weird rubber pipe leaving the bottom of the air cleaner is for(a lot of other equipment has it also) but I always guessed that this was a water drain for the air cleaner housing. Is this a correct assumption?
