Drive shaft U joints

I was asking questions about this on another thread but better start My own.


Where is a good place to order the right U joints and C clams (the one that holds the U joint to the drive shaft ) for our trucks?

I have a very small vibration at 30mph speed that is anoying Me and thought to replace the tanny mount, carrier bearing, and U joint clamps C but Maybe it is good to replace the U joints at the same time (is it?) and wonder where to order them.

Nappa carrys the u-joints and the repair kit you are looking for.

Thanks Gary, they do have the U joints but they did not have the c clamps to hold them. What is this repair kit You say?

Ok here is the U joint strap and here is the U joint, they come with grease fittings and the G washers/clip.

I usually buy from rock auto since You recommended them Joe but this time I could not find the part on heir web site, and after I talked to them they could not find it either soo... back to napa for now. Too bad is not a moog part, I like to order the same brand.

I always get mine from Six States Distributing, oregon wa and utah, spicer is the only way to go for proper fit and life. Most driveline shops use only spicer, some napa stores carry spicer,or can get them, I have broken some precision brand joints , middle of a hill and fully loaded with the old 79 2 wd, and the rest of the story involved swearing and some adult beverages.

#1, a vibration at 30 isn't a U-joint. They usually start to do their thing about 50+ and then......................CRAP what is that banging and why am I not moving anymore.
#2 A carrier can do some starnge things and is typically caused because the rubber around the CB is tired.
#3 Why do you need to replace the clmaps with the nuts?????? Unless you loose it or strip out the threads it should be OK.
#4 Be sure to take the u-joints with you as Ford had a habit of installing different caps for every day of the week. I took mine and the ones that were in the part book did not match so we eyed them up.
#5 Have you damaged a tire or had one repaired? I had a vibration in a 16" tire and it finally went away when I threw the tire away. It had been patched and balenced. I just has 1 repaired this week. It required a plug+patch because ti was just on the edge of the tread and wall. Guess what....... het over 55 and you can start to feel that vibration from the back end where the tire is.

In my opinion "Brute Force" U-joint are the better ones out there.

Got the U joints and strap kit from napa today and they are installed now, did the carrier bearing while I was at it and let Me say that was not an easy task, I'd like to know if there is a tool to remove it and install is since I had to do it My way and maybe there was a tool to do it instead of hammering the dang thing, I will test it tomorrow towing the trailer and see if it's all good. The U joints where worn out, so I'm glad I replaced everything.

Feels a lot better, it was not too difficult but I wish I had a carrier bearing removal tool if there is such thing bc to remove the old one I used My favorite tools 2 pound hammer and chisel .

To remove the U joints I used a 8" C clamp but if they are too hard You can use a ball joint remover tool with an impact wrench.

Seeing that you already have it fixed I am posting Mr. Driveshaft for future reference for anyone that needs Ujoints or driveshaft work.

Although the website doies not indicate shipping I am sure they do ship. I have personally used there service numerous times with no problems.
