Does anyone have any steering coupler/rag joint upgrade options? I’m not a huge fan of the rubber rag joint in my 1992 and want to find something more pro bust before it goes bad some day. The replacement rag joint options I’ve found online have been a substantial downgrade. The rubber joint is far thinner than OEM.

Most people go to this in the link. Certainly, heavy duty.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't 86-91 use a double U joint steering shaft? Can't that be just slipped in?

Another thing that commonly wears out on these shafts is the nylon bushing in the sliding section of the shaft. That accounts for a surprising amount of play in the system, usually more than the rag joint. I’m not aware of a good replacement currently in the market. Some have tried different materials to shim the bushing (wrapping the smaller shaft with aluminum foil and then installing the bushing on top) to give it more life with varying results. As mentioned above, if the problem is bad enough then the borgeson shaft is pretty much the best solution.
