Oh I know trust me I thought out my choice of words before typing them I didnt wanna be THAT GUY I know what's considered very high hp is 400-500 with lots of work I even made sure I said quick when talking about the speed of the truck not fast lol.i do understand their limits like I said definitely want something just as fast maybe alittle faster then a 1st gen powerstroke something around a powerstroke with a ts6 chip type power .right now it's just too slow for my liking also dont want something too hacked together so I'm trying to ask as many questions as possible to plan it all out and have everything I need and then do it all in one shot the answers I've been getting are very interesting I love seeing what others did and hearing their input and experience thanks for all the help so far guys.

Well I prefer hickory, but mesquite isn't bad either. I don't care much for other flavors. I guess I'm not very fancy. Did that help to answer your question?
I missed out on using some plum from our tree before we moved away. But I agree hickory and mesquite are top of the list for me.

Good questions; I also wonder about “recipes” for these IDIs. My focus is to start with making sure my fuel system will be capable of supporting the power target. ( I’m looking for 325 at the flywheel which I think is a good balance between power and reliability on my IDIT)

Also looking to do a new down pipe, but I’d like to tackle that at the same time as new turbo and head studs. I’ve purchased the ARP studs; just looking for a good opportunity to do it all. I want the “whole package” to work as well as possible when I get it all together.

Willing to bet I could coerce ya all with some of my oak smoked brisket. I usually throw in a couple logs of hickory early in the process, if I can find some to harvest that is.

Does 325 crank really require alot of supporting mods to achieve? Thats what, 275ish at the wheels?

From what I've read (and correct me if I'm wrong) I was under the impression a good turbo and a decent (larger) IP should do it. Would likely require studs, and an intercooler would definitely be recommended but not necessarily required depending on how you drive.

I figured the stock IP would be capable once tuned up according to typ4's instructions (was it typ4 or rus? I dont recall who made that sticky). Wasnt he able to get upwards of 130 out of a worn out stock IP?

I couldn't answer that, but Typ4 IS Russ.

I believe you may be confusing him with Wes who has done a few DB2 modification threads.

Derp, yeah Wes not Russ. I gotta get these names right, ive ordered enough parts from them to at least keep them sorted out. Shoot, my trucks have CDD stickers all over em, maybe they could put their names on the stickers so I will remember. :idiot:

I'm about 40 minutes away from ya I assume. Never one to turn down smoked meats!

I'll second this. It should be all you need to do to reach your goals. Although I would say that the intercooler is required. It may not be, but I feel that it is at this power level.

Very interesting thanks for the input .exactly the kind of thing I was looking for someone who has lots of experience and knowledge on them with feedback . Any estimate or guesstimate on a hp number? Also pump tuning/mods for your turbo setup?

So I went to the file, and found the original paperwork for the turbo kit available from the early 80's. HP gains are stated as +80 to +155. I am assuming the 155 increase is with an Inter cooler. Considering stock HP around 185, this would put you between 265 and 340 on a 6.9.
The Turbo in the pic is what came with the kit. I made a flange to 3" V band adapter, and matching down pipe when I was still running this thru the inter cooler. I made the pressure bonnet that came with the kit work for both before and after IC installation, just by rotating it from driver side inlet to passenger side inlet. Made 11 lbs boost and was happy at 2400 RPM.
Then came the Holset, and then soon after the re work of the compressor side and 56mm billet wheel, and a smaller hot side housing. After comparing the two, the Holset moves waaaay more air, so I turned the pump up and have been running it for many years. I'm confident it approaches the high side of the HP estimates. I still wonder how much more there would be with a modified pump...forgot to mention this is the only package I've ever seen that comes with an oil accumulator that attached to the firewall just above the turbo to allow oil feed to bearings after shutdown to prevent coking

Hypermax Pulse is dyno designed around 7.3 IDI and they have crunched all the numbers and ship a complete system in three boxes. T4, intercooler and 3” exhaust.

Started the install this morning.

I found an error in the paper work. It says "because a turbo system pumps more air and fuel into an engine". A turbo only puts more air into the engine, something else must change in order for more fuel to go through the same engine. Not that it affects anything, but it's just a little bit strange to me to see this coming out of a company that designs and sells (or sold) turbo kits.
