@1992 idi 73 @IDIBRONCO both plugs came out okay. Sludge washes right off my finger just fine. Block dumped a bunch of beautiful brown coolant out. I’ll make up a flushing system for my hose and just let it dump out into my bins. With the tstat out correct? I obviously won’t let it run hot (still cool enough here in WA).

Looking forward to new everything though. All hoses and Tstat will be here at NAPA tomorrow along with a coolant filter.

That's probably a big reason my you over heated. I would say you probably want some form of detergent or de-greaser.

My RV radiator is still a bit mucky after backflushing twice with some cleaner in between, but it runs cool enough, especially after a few thermostat and fan clutch. It ran an average of 190-200F before those parts, about 180-185F now.

When cutting your hose make sure to leave a lot of slack so its easy to work around. Don't be like this dummy trying to make it look a ll nice and ending up cutting it to short. I'm too cheap to go and buy another hose so I just live with it.

No. Don't use any thermostat except genuine Motorcraft. Any others are prone to causing overheating. Walmart sells the RT1049 for $23 online and offers 2 day free shipping on $25+. I got mine from them. O'Reilly sells them too.

That would probably be the best way. As long as you're running water into it (like from a garden hose) it won't run hot. If the thermostat housing leaks at the gasket after removing the thermostat, that's no problem. You won't be taking
it on any long trips and you'll be putting a new thermostat and gasket in place anyway.

It's probably a Motorcraft from Napa.

Just another hole to flush through! Looks like there was some yellow sealant on the plug threads. This anything special?

@Cubey you would be correct. NAPA does not carry Motorcraft so I picked one up at O'Reilly.

Today I picked up the upper and lower rad hoses and the NAPA 4019 filter head with the 4072 filter. Got most of the fittings except both Lowes and Home Depot were out of the 1/2 NPT to 5/8 barb. As was ACE. And my local hardware store didn't have them either. So I will flush the engine today and at least get the plugs back in and the filter painted.
