Sorry for the delay on getting this one up. Been a crazy few weeks for us here...

Looks like we have 2 options

1. A repeat of the 2019 Rally in Gatlinburg, Tennessee area - Heath and Jared (@hesutton and @subway)

2. A return to New Hampshire - Elijah (@no mufflers)

I'll leave this one open until Saturday, November 30, 2019.

Scott, I'm afraid this post is not getting much traffic here. Only 9 votes in a week. I don't think the move to events section is a good thing for the rally threads and it's hurting participation. If just nine people are interested in going, the rally will die off soon.

Please consider moving the rally threads back to the IDI section were the masses will see them.

Just my two cents.

Thanks,

Heath

Heath,

There have been over 200 views of this post, which means it’s getting plenty of traffic. This means that only 9 people have chosen to vote.

The posts for Darrin’s fall rally (which was the largest yet) and for Michael’s spring get together are getting plenty of attention, and have been 100% in this sub forum and posted on Facebook, which I have also done with this thread. The change to the Events sub forum was long enough ago that people are used to it.

This, and all other threads about events will remain in this location, as all the posts are receiving traffic.

I don’t want to see the rally end, but people’s lives change. Members that always made it, have started missing some. I believe even Mel has not been able to make it. The smaller, “long weekend” events spread throughout the year seem to be gaining steam..... I know personally it’s much easier to be able to have 3 days available, but not 7-10. Change is inevitable, and with the membership being spread out more and more, it’s difficult to get everyone together in one place.

Attendee's coming and going isn't new. The difference is new attendees aren't coming. We get lots of new members here every year. They likely have no clue the rally even exists, much less where to find info on it. I'm not personally OK with it dying off.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this buddy.

Yes, we will have to agree to disagree.....

Some of those new members have been ones to comment, and post get together information in this location. One just happened last week.

Most forums have dedicated areas, just like this. The fact the IDI sub-forum was a catch all for everything over the years was the exception, not the norm for forums. That is why the decision was made to try and use the appropriate sub-forum for the events.

Also, this is supposed to be an Oilburners rally (as decided years ago) not strictly an IDI only rally. There are members now, that have never owned and IDI, and only go to the sub-forum they need. If I was coming in for 6.0 questions only, as a new member, I may never look in the IDI area. Would never think an event might be posted only in there.

I see it here, and other places online. Many members here that were extremely active online and in person hardly post anywhere. Many who’s kids begged to go every year are now teenagers and have their own activities, which many times includes parents participating/time and can not get away. Some of us have kids still at home, and grown with grandchildren. Many truly do not have the time or ability to be away for a week. I know personally, (and I am certain this is the case for many members) that simply having a weekend to go help an injured family members took 2 weeks of planning and schedule rearranging to be able to go.

The events are staying here. Back to the rally voting process.

Another thing I'm learning as I try to keep up with information sharing and advertising not only for my business, but for my PTA and beekeepers association, is the next generations don't use the same platforms we do. I love forums, am ok with Facebook, and don't understand Twitter and Instagram. But had to learn the last two to gain new and younger audience.

I've had to start Instagram accounts for everything I'm involved in and it has worked to grab that younger audience's attention, and I am bumbling my way through Twitter. Twitter seems easy but it is overwhelming.

I am learning hashtags and what they are and how to use them to gain interest, (especially for younger beekeepers!) and have had a lot of luck with that information for gaining new customers as well. There are some customers I literally never actually speak to or MEET!!!

If we wanted to try something like that, you can link accounts and maybe only share our events on those platforms but link back to here?

I understand the need to organize our threads and help keep down the clutter in the IDI section. I also believe that a decent amount of people pass through here and have gotten used to this.

I also believe that it is still getting less traffic then previous years and that has had an effect. a view count of 200 is still pretty low compared to most anything in the IDI section. yes we are moving away from IDI specific trucks and events to try to move a little with the times and maybe we need to consider this again. reaching out in different or newer mediums. i don't want to move away from this great site but talking with other younger folks like Danielle mentioned, forums don't seem to be the go-to they once were.

while the IDI platform this community was based around is shrinking as these trucks age diesel trucks are still very popular and we are still not growing like we were. i am not ready to accept this great group will fade off if we can do something about it.

is it still possible to compromise by temporarily moving threads to help get the word out more?

My 02. As someone who has just recently gotten back here and had the opportunity to meet people and attend a couple rally's lately my thoughts are why not sticky a link in each forum leading back to this forum as a reminder for people who may not be thinking about the events as they search for information or provide answers to questions.

I agree for the rally to really become a site wide event it needs to be available to everyone. I just think it's kind of hidden in here and needs some attention thrown around for people to see.

It would IMO benefit all the get togethers not just the Rally.

It is hard to vote sometimes also. This community is so tight knit that I wonder if some feel they don't want to vote "against" anyone? I vote selfishly haha

i agree, it is hard to vote sometimes. because we are so spread out voting for one person will usually cause someone else to get excluded because of distance. this is always a struggle and why the rally's were focused in the western PA and surrounding areas somewhat. it is an attempt to be more centralized for everyone but people don't want to go to the same area to many times in a row. oddly enough OH that is right in the middle does not seem to have very many members or eligible campgrounds lol

So maybe I'm stupid, but I really haven't been finding the "vote" part of this thread. I have been looking for it, but all I see are all the posts and no buttons to click to vote. I'm using Tapatalk btw.

That is correct you have to be logged in to vote. I just now found the voting thread from a email update that Tapatalk put out on Nov 17.

I found a few in Ohio that could hold our group. I got us set up to try the one in Paris OH this up coming April. Just need people willing to attend.
