So how'd the shakedown run go?

never got it out. due to lack of registration.
this is going into storage to be brought back out at a later date.
yanmar or konrad drives will be needed to handle the torque.
bravo 3's are only rated to 450 ft/lbs. NO BUENO!
so now if i stick with the strokers, i have to spend over 12k in drives.

not to mention i should just find a set of Mercruiser D73's
ive taljked to all of my old school boating buddys,
and they all hav e told me, that if i want diesels, im going to spend buku bucks.
so it is what it is.... time to start saving...
its gonna be a couple of years, but this project WILL live again!

sadly, this boat is going gas powered.
ive scrapped the idea of twin diesels.
alot of factors played a part.
the cost of drives.
the lack of support for the needed drives.
the lack of support for marinated 7.3's
a straight 6 wont fit
any other diesel ive looked at does not have the output i would like.
and even if i hoped them up, the drives would be at the peak rating, rendering them prone to breakage.

so the new plan is a set of Bravo 1 drives and twin 467 pontiacs.
i already have one of the rotating assemblys, so its cheaper just to build both engines with the same exact parts...

for the poncho savvy,
eagle forged 4.25 stroke
eagle H beams 6.800
ross pistons for the 400 base.

but.... this may change.
may go to 455 blocks which have more rotating mass.
im going for longevity, not power.
cams will be mild.
guess this is the end of this thread...

Yep keep it going, sounds like a killer project regardless of the type of fuel. I will vote for the 455's just cause in 73 they called the 455... Super Duty...And because the block dimensions of Pontiac engines were identical so the 455 is essentially(well almost) a stroker 400 with higher torque out put and heavier internals as you noted. 620hp for the pair stock should get that dingy rolling pretty quick.

well, if i do go 455's they will have aftermarket rotating assemblys.
i will not be using the stock smogger heads... ( which dramatically decreased compression. most 455's has 111-114 cc chambers post 1970)
most likely a set of 16's or 6S's
i have 2 pars of each.
with 2.11 and 1.77 valves, and a CC of 72cc's
that puts the compression right around 10:1
with hot ignitions, 91 octane burns just fine.
id like to have over 400 hp each. even if i run my 400 based blocks.
which is very doable with a well thought out pontiac, and a mild cam.
which i have, i dont have any 455's currently.

i do have a set of aluminum heads, but to keep the cost down, i will be running cast iron heads.
then i do not have to run a heat exchanger.;Sweet
i have intakes, ignitions, heads, both blocks, and enough parts in my bin to support both engines.
only thing i would have to buy, is another rotating assembly, a valve train, and carbs.
both engines no matter the displacement will have roller hydraulic cams.

the great thing about pontiacs, is that the lower end is built at zero deck height.
pistons are pretty much the same, unless youre running a longer rod like im going to.
if you build the lower ends strong enough, they will last forever!(connecting rods are the weak link)
also, i can swap heads at a later date, drop the compression to 8.5:1 and slap a set of pro chargers on them very easily!

this would be trick!!!

Well you might have guessed I love pontiacs so hell yes tune em up! My dream car is a 69 gto judge RA IV there is one sitting in a ranch yard over by our place but the guy will not sell it!?? :dunnoHe is getting pretty old tho so maybe senility will play into my hands...That efi setup could be key in heavy seas and makes tuning SUPER easy. Pre 70 the biggest pontiac offering was a 428 1970-76 I believe were 455 years keep us posted;Sweet.

^^correct, but bigger does not always mean better, in 70, the 455 out of the hi comp GP, had the same hp rating as a 400.
the 400's do wind up a bit more tho.
i will most liekly be running the 400's and bore and stroke them.
id love to find a 4" stroke crank, and bore the 400's to 4.15
but the 4.25" stroke cranks are readily available and fairly cheap.

How long are you going to be sleeping on the couch for that comment? LOL

:rotflmao depends if she saw it or not.
she would prolly just laugh and pinch me,
then make a comment about how shes doing her job at growing babies.
then i would comment on how shes a high dollar incubator,
THEN i would get smacked...

but i think the fact of me rubbing her back when she needs it rubbed at 3 am outweighs my comical remarks, which are plentiful lol
