spicer 6041 brownie transmission

Anybody know where i can find input and output yokes to make my brownie work in a 86 f350? thanks, mike

What is the smallest you can go? The smallest on my 5831 is 1410, but I found Napco makes a 1410 to 1350 conversion joint.

Any big truck transmission and driveline supply can get those yokes for you. As mentioned a 1410 is the smallest you will be able to get for the thing. When you have your shafts made up you can just have them made with yokes to match the larger joints on the brownie end. I have a 1550 on the front of my brownie and a 1410 on the back and 1350s at the zf and the diff

I am fairly certain the 4-speed unit I have is a 6041.

It has flat plate/flanges at both ends.

I picked up two short drive-shafts at a big truck junk-yard, ten-bucks apiece (or was it ten-bucks for both ??), complete with huge U-joints and flanges that mate with the ones on the gear-box.

Maybe it was purely providence, but the first two that I saw are the ones I got, leading me to believe that maybe the flange bolt-pattern is pretty much standard.

When I finally take time to undergo this project, I will just take these shafts to my machinist/genious friend and have him work his magic.

Mine will have a Dodge/Cummins U-joint at the top, the two huge ones at the gear-box, and the Ford one at the differential. ;Sweet

Thus far, I have been ignorant as to just what the various U-joint numbers mean.

How does one know what particular joint one has ??

What makes a 1410 a 1410 and so forth ??

Please enlighten me.

Your Dodge/Cummins joint is a 1410 series joint, if you still have the stock 85 pinion yoke, it's a 1330F joint at the diff. Depending on which rear axle you have, You should be able to get a 1410 yoke for the pinion, I know if it's a Dana you can, short pinion sterling I'm not sure, long pinion is available for sure.

You can see that a 1410 has the same cap size as a 1350, just a wider cross.

Yeah mine has a huge yoke now for the output, i dont know the size yet, and a flat round flange on the input with 4 holes. I was hoping to get a conversion joint for the output yoke, however it looks large, or a set of yokes for the 1410 joints or whatever size they are.

In the long run, it will cost more, but you are better off getting new yokes and having the shaft made up to match the ends rather than using a conversion joint, Conversion joints are known for not holding up well at highway speed and having vibration problems and you are going to have enough problems trying to avoind vibrations getting your driveshaft angles just right within specs without having to worry about wonky ujoints. If you don't have it yet, I can email you a copy of the spicer driveshaft instalation guide for figuring ujoint angles.
