Ok guys, I have an air compressor I pulled off a F1000 (yes, F one thousand) dump truck which was equipped with air brakes, so there is no clutch on said compressor.
How bad of an idea would it be to install this on a daily driver the way it sits?
Should I install a clutch off an AC compressor (if possible)?
Or should I just keep looking for a York?

could just mount it and not put a belt on it until needed :dunno

not having a clutch would rob power and fuel efficiency, so if you really need it hook it up but if not why bother

You might want to do some checking around a big truck boneyards and see if someone knows anything about that compressor. With no clutch, it may have an internal bypass preset at a certain pressure that cuts out and back in when the pressure drops below a set threshold.

If you can find a clutch for it, that's what I'd use. You can control it with any compressor switch. NAPA should have a catalog with different pulley/clutch options for that compressor, but you'll need to know what model you have. Is it a Bendix?
