Disconnected both batteries red wires.
Removed the PS pump (what a mess) and moved the AC, hung from the hood by a piece of wire. A dirty job getting to the 4 bolts on the front header, a little probing and ....there they are!

On a side note, valve cover gaskets maybe?

I got all the bolts loosened, top front was a little difficult to get to, not impossible.
A little prying between the log and the block and the old gasket let go, a shower insued. Maybe the gasket was not the problem. We'll see.

From the rear drivers side, bolts removed

I don't force anything unless I know it requires force.

I tried to remove the rear header, with or without the log and no go.
It will move a little, but as I said up there, about force......
I realize it's gotta come apart, I just want to be sure....

Not much room to swing a hammer under there.

Anybody?

OMG could it be a freeze plug? crap! I'll look tomorrow after a trip to the airport at 5am, chit!

LCjeff

PS. look mom no smilies and the right size images (hopefully) that works for me, and you?

Silly question, did you get all the bolts out? it's so greasy down there cou;d be one hiding:D
All that mess looks like it's coming down from the valve cover gaskets

Both ends have 4 bolts holding them to the block... The exhaust manifold needs to come off if you remove it upwards.

wow....
i thought I had dirty motors......
be gentle but be firm with yanking them off.
your results will be best if you could apply pressure on both sides at once.
a 4x4 block and a couple of prybars do wonders;Sweet
leave the front connected and pry off the rear and the bundle.
good thing I didn't go to the jazz festival this year, I could easily see me getting covered in oil on this nightmare if I stopped in.

Thank you Towcat, Cherry's Jubalee auto madness is in town this week, too many trailer queens driving like idiots.

Yes I took out 4 bolts from the rear header, thanks.
Trying to seperate the header from the log

pry, no tap, I'll try.

thanks again,

Doh, good and bad news

I got it out with the longest piece of hardwood I could fit in there (3/4 by 1" by almost 2 feet long) pushed a while with my hands, switched to a leg and presto! came out, header and log, YES
Remover the front header, put them on the table in the light, what a mess!
The old O-rings are rock hard.

Seems the mess is not in here, nice and clean.

After cleaning for a while I find this!!!!!
OMG, ***, it's a hole in the rear header water passage right above the oil filter (or where it would be) CRAP!
But on a lighter note, at least I know that's the problem!

i don't see any problem in the pic.
if you want a rear header, you'll need to make a trip to the bay area.
2.5h run.
edit.....
now I see a really blurry pic with what looks like a hole.
once again, if you need one...make the run.:D

That cost is cheap on any coast. A 12 pack for a rear header... Wow is all I can say... I understand its probably a used header but still a great thing for a fellow member of the gang... What would you do foa a kegger....:sly:D:eek::rotflmao

Well... Now you need another oil cooler bundle. Those are about $300.00 from Ford. Sorry to tell you this bad news but things happen when you work on these motors. Any wrecking yard that has these trucks will have an oil cooler available. Maybe Towcat might have a spare. I have several spares but I wouldn't trust any of them. I have no idea whats inside them.....

New/used oil cooler in hand

WOW, what a nice guy Calvin(towcat) is, $40.00 and 18 coors, what a sweet deal :sly
He mentioned using 2 wood blocks with a hole between to hold the log in a vice, will be doing that tomorrow, stay tuned.

Thank you very much, if you need anything I can provide, just ask!

Again, thanks much,

LCjeff

PS, do not forget the beer
