    tank select switch

The motor in the selector switch locked up on me and kept blowing fuses. Try unplugging the tank selector switch, see what happens.

    1990 F250 - F350 compatability

Most things should be the same. Diffs are mostly front axle parts on 4x4's

    Dianosis Please? Trucks horrible

    1. Timing Sounds retarded. I guess that because white smoke, high egts(heat going out exhaust before its converted to mech. Energy) and low boost. 2. Could also have an air leak letting the boost escape. Also check for exhaust leaks. If you were closer, and I had some vacation time I would...

steps to replace 1-piece fuel filter?

The theory is that all fuel is dirty until filtered. I like the idea of filling the filter with diesel, but if you fill it by the middle hole you are giving your ip a dose of "dirty diesel". Its your choice of cranking a bit to get the air out or not.

    Pyrometer Limits

Cummins are also direct injected. That a is big difference. The heat is in the bore, not in the head. To the OP, 1250 would be the safe limit that we see not to cross, sustained for minutes, I would stay below 1050.

    1st timer pulling idi turbodiesel

All gear diameters are different sizes. Try looking at places the set sell gear sets online. I think that a 44 is like 8.25", a 50 is 8.5", and a 60 is 9.75".

6.9 IP swap -Interesting findings & results.

They are supposed to have two springs to close the throttle, so if one breaks you have the other to idle it down. The spring is supposed to go on the ball stud where the throttle cable goes on, not like it is in the first pic. the other end doesn't seem right either. My springs are almost as...

    ZF5 Gear Noise

For the through -out bearing I would use green loctite (sleeve retaining compound) to hold it in if it were not tight. Is it a new bearing?

    Sending units

trucks: 80-86 are high ohms empty, low ohms full 87-up are low ohms empty, high ohms full vans: at least till 1990 they are the old style, I don't know too much about them, but when the clusters switched to the newer style, they went to the new truck style.

Thoughts on our crappy sending units.

I just fixed my front tank by using a gasser sending unit. First I cut the pump off, then used a piece of hose to replace the pump to get to the bottom of the tank. The only other thing was that I had to use the wire connector from the gas truck because they have a four wire connector. The...

this may sound like a stupid question

Crankcase depression regulator. It is on the back of the intake on a non turbo, looks like a tuna can. At low rpms, the engine sucks the crankcase vapors(blow by) into the intake. At high rpms it would suck oil too, so this device closes the opening down to prevent this.

    Low boost high EGT's

If you are comparing to a 12 valve p pump, then I know it is not a boost leak. We have many f700's at work and one popped the hose from the turbo to intercooler off. It was like a freight train, or a sled puller, but with no power. Also the computerized trucks read the boost pressure and then...

    Low boost high EGT's

No in or out on the intercooler. fwiw, most cummins I have seen the intercooler inlet is on the pass. side. Sounds like advanced timing to me.

    Low boost high EGT's

But any loss of boost (air) would make it smoke more. Same with a restricted air filter. Do you still have the filter minder from the 088 filter housing? I would plumb that in and rule out any possibility of the filter.
