Cheap remans will do that when the clearance between the stator and the rotor are too great. I had a problem like that and I just plain gave up trying to find a good aftermarket rebuilt alternator. I did go to Ford and buy a reman that has worked fine ever since. They are not priced too far out of line either and have a reasonable warranty. The 130A alternator I got from Ford will put out almost 100 amps at base idle. The best thing you could do at this time is get an actual output amperage reading. You may need to find a mechanic or friendly shop to take that reading for you as a good clamp on DC ammeter is very expensive.
