I am not an IDI expert what so ever. So take what I ask or say with a grain of salt.

Any engine that is assembled with the possibility of tight tolerances or with custom parts, or any valvetrain modifications, should have the PTV checked. No matter what a builder/designer/seller/assembler/aunt May/witch doctor say.

Valve reliefs are a common thing in the diesel world. Often times a better way to get PTV clearance vs sinking the valves and messing with valvetrain geometry.
Modifications to the head, valve recession, etc... plays a part in compression. So not flycutting pistons for compression reasons is not a good argument vs modifying the head.

How much is the base circle on the cam being ground down? Would a larger cam blank help with the valvetrain issues y’all have mentioned? I know the Cummins and Duramax guys have run into this on larger cam grinds. I just don’t know the specs on the IDI cam and how y’all are grinding them.
