Uhaul IP no high idle

Is it the sensor near the water outlet neck that controls the fast idle/timing advance? If so, I have nothing plugged into it. I was wondering what that was for and I would have started a thread on it but my camera cable has gone missing so I can't upload pictures. My high idle didn't work when I replaced the IP with a U-Haul unit, so I sawed it off the bracket to make more room. Mine was permanently attached to the bracket, so I need a bracket and solenoid. I still can't justify $90 for the thing, though.

My advance piston is about 1/2" away from the throttle lever

I think that might be part of the problem
