Turned up the pump more

I turned up the pump some more (about .5-.75 flat), and I took it for a drive. Anyways I have a little more power, definatly more smoke, and the EGT's are higher (saw 1250* for the first time, going up a grade). Anyways I brought it home and it seems to run a little rougher at idle, maybe that is just me thinking it though. If I did turn it up and its a little rougher at idle, did I go to far?

My pump is cranked as far as it can go and it idles the same as it did with the pump at the "stock " setting. All turning the pump up does is allow it to fuel more heavily when trying to acclerate. At any given RPM with no load and not trying to accellerate, it is fueling the exact same as it was prior to turning up the pump.

Maybe timing, who knows. I was thinking about bumping the timing a little more advanced, but I didnt want to jump into that today.

It just seemed to run a little rougher, but it could be me just imagining that. I have smoke at WOT even when I have full boost (before it would clean up the smoke when I hit 5+ psi of boost)

I'm running 8psi hot, 9psi cold (air temp). Anymore and I can kiss my headgaskets goodbye . But once I get head studs....

Actually Justin, higher EGTs also take a toll on head gaskets. If you were already maxing out at 8-9 psi and aren't comfortable going higher with boost, adding more fuel without more boost is not exactly harmless.

Just keep a good eye on that pyro, and be aware that if anyone else drives your truck, they may not know how to avoid smoke lugging or other high EGT situations.

I suspect if you were to attach a trailer to the truck, you will find the EGTs higher even holding the same speeds as before.

You are probably right. I just wanted to see how much more I could turn up my pump. Its just gotta last till the end of summer, then I will put in Head studs.
