Turbo differences

Hi, everybody. I'm new to the forum and fairly new to the IDI, but I really enjoy both. I am putting a turbo on my '92 7.3 N/A and just wanted to ask a quick question of those that have forgotten more than i'll ever probably know on the subject. Is there a practical difference between a factory 94 set up and a Banks setup? I see both for sale and at roughly the same prices. Any help you could provide would be very much appreciated. I am ready to purchase something now.

Really for the average joe either is a great setup for our trucks, they both offer an increase in torque and hp in moderate levels. It isn't until you get into some wicked custom stuff you start making BIG power.

For a practical difference I don't see any, I do see differences in non waste gated and waste gated but that's it, and even those are minimal and not anything to worry about.

keep in mind when buying used kits,there may be missing parts.small brackets.you'll want a new gasket kit,some odds and ends etc.the exhaust part doesn't last forever.eventually the cross over pipes will rust out.
i recently bought my second used banks kit.i called up banks directly last night and ordered whatever i wanted/needed from the part lists section of the install instructions,hassle free.
ats dropped the ball on us.call them and you'll get nothing.

Ok, that's good to know. I guess I also should have said in my opening post that this truck is not for racing/pulling really heavy loads all the time or anything high end like that. I pull a 6000# trailer most weekends and a skid steer on rare occasion - all tasks the truck currently handles fine. I am just looking for a little more "practical" performance. I guess a moderate soup-up of the old girl

Best advice then a GOOD turbo kit, be it ATS, stock Ford's ATS model or a Banks, or a Hypermax. All of the bolt on kits work well enough for what you are describing.

Look for one complete and you'll likely be quite happy.

Add a cam from Russ AKA Typ4 here into the mix if so inclined, and a bit of a modded IP a Moose from Mel AKA Agnem here and you should be good.

Make sure to have a Pyro and Boost gauge, watch your EGT's, which you should be doing for NA anyway.

If you can find an intercooler that's going to make things just a bit sweeter.

Bottom line, you'll get an increase in torque and usable power as I mentioned which will be great for your applications.

Good luck either way you go, read the FAQ and TECH sections, there is a ton of info in there...BTW put what trans you have in the truck in your signature too please.
