So this is only half a idi question, maybe 25%.

While scouring Craigslist the other night I came upon an ad for a T19 out of a 4x4 diesel (year not listed).. What I'm curious about is, is this at all close really to a T18? My F150 that was my grandfathers is the only truck I have that I could ever forsee purchasing spare for ahead of time as its in really good shape and has much sentimental value.

It has a T18 4 speed, and is hooked to what I believe is a bw1356 transfer case. Both of which are totally fine, not even 50k original miles on the truck but it's closing in on it. The guy is only asking for 100$ and just wants rid of it, and should it be something that could be swapped if the T18 were to ever croak I think I'd pick it up. Probably wouldn't ever need it but still.

I tried my googling best but there's not much online for the T18 really to see the differences, I just know the thing seems way too low geared and torque centric for a short box 150 mated to a 300-6, but it sure does make it fun to drive.

Small block (not sure about the 300) and IDI bellhousing patterns are different. If it was a 460 truck, it could be made to work but its not a bolt in either way.

That is just on the Auto's and the ZF-5

The T-18/T-19/NP435(I Think) are 2 piece. There is a bellhousing that has the correct pattern for the engine on one end, and a standard opening/bolt pattern the gearbox bolts to. Then there is the actual gearbox.......

So, yes you could bolt a "Diesel" T-19 into you T-18 300-6 150 without a problem.......... the gear ratios would be different.... but it would work.....

No problem.... the 80-86 trucks have more in common to the earlier trucks when it come to transmission/driveline than the newer trucks.....

Take a look at my other post again.... I added some to it....

Bonus - if you use that transmission on your half-ton, the bellhousing you leave behind is marketable to the old-school IDI community. Shoot, I might buy it just to have on hand. You do hear of people cracking them now and then.

I think I'll pick it up then if the guy calls me back and has it.

I just can forsee having this truck still 15-20 years later and not being able to find parts for it. Heck by then my 250 and 350 might be dead but I don't think a zf5 and m5od in my other two, -- the zf hopefully will have over 200k or still be in diesel truck in my possession driving around and the m5od already has 200k on it and by then I don't know that that truck will be around but neither will be useful for the one truck I care about keeping around no matter the case. I'd like to pass it along and see how long it lasts in the family etc. and it's the only one with a shot anyways ;Sweet well maybe the idi, 112k isn't much but 47k on the 300 has it beat for sure along with it having been in the family since 89..

Thanks for the replies! Time to try and make it happen.

Correct. The cast iron pigs have interchangeable bell housings. I'm not too hip on slushboxes, but the aluminum cased gearboxes have integral bell housings (M5R1, M5R2/M5OD, ZF5, ZF6).

Id be interested in the bell housing. Or if you'd want to stay original I have a t18 and small block bell I'd trade with a couple bucks your way also.
