Wow, what a mess.
Go to https://www.etrailer.com/ and look up your year truck. Click in to wiring and your etc.... and they have a plug with wires that plug into your trucks wiring.
The following link is for my 86, but you get the idea.

It`s plug and play, and you will have new wiring to run to your bumper plug. And thy are on sale now.

When I posted this link, I meant to click on this part.
It plugs into the main harness at the back of the truck. Then you do not have to cut into any of the trucks harness wires. My 86 had this when I bought it.

The old (factory?) one like that on my 87 F250 went bad, messing with the operation of my tail/brake lights. I only noticed when I was driving one night and I could see that the tail/brake light on the driver's side wasn't working, since they it normally shows up in the side mirror. I removed it and the lights went back to working properly. The T tap connector had loose wire connections in it.

Those are nice units, it's nice to have the 4 pin readily available without needing an adapter. Here's an additional 7 blade and 4 pin combo connector that uses the same harness but fits in the round hole of standard 7 blade connector so you don't have to cut a new hole pattern in your bumper.

Hopkins 47180 is the kit including the harness and 40950 is just the connector.
