Found an '85 with 6.9 ext cab 2wd in a local auto salvage yard. It has captain chairs (which is why i went to look at it), zf5, tach, motor is still in the truck. The only thing missing is wheels and tires, the truck has not been picked over YET. It also has dual exhaust on it. $1,000 for whole truck. I'm interested in the seats, exhaust, and transmission. Should I buy the whole thing? All the glass is good, sheetmetal is straight, but by no means is this truck something I'd want to try and put on the road. Just something for parts for myself and for you guys . Let me know your thoughts.

you are going to need one part of the driveshaft segment too.

For the price of the ZF, conversion components and all u would have about $500, so u are half way there. Plus all the other things, this is a no brainer!

You guys are saying what I thought you would, and what I want to do. However the wife doesn't see it that way. And she's the one that keeps telling me I need another gear in my truck. What would the block be worth? One other question, how much would my T-19 be worth. I'd leave it in the truck to show that it is a strong transmission until it sold.

T19 could be worth $300 to the right person (IE desperate) more than likely you'll basically give it away. I got a perfectly good T18 for $85 in the junkyard. If the engine runs, it's worth $300-600 again to the right person. For bargaining purposes, I'd place the value somewhere between what the scrap iron would be worth 900lbs* the going price of really good scrap iron/steel and a core charge for a reman long block. You will NOT be underwater on this truck in all likelihood if you have the time to pick it apart without people losing patience with you or calling the law on you for having an unserviceable vehicle. It would help if you could sell the engine and tranny semi-locally. Shipping kills on those things. Also the axles are worth something, not a lot but something and are heavy if it comes to scrapping them.

I can give you an idea of how much stuff you can pick clean off the carcass, but being to make a buck, you might as well shoot yourself in the foot.


for example.....on the MONEY YOU CAN SAVE....
feul switching valve...pull it, seal off the ends and put it aside. when yours fails, it will save you from spending $150.
throttle cable...pull it and gently hang it on the wall. should yours break, you have just saved yourself $75.
if you got the room to leave it tucked away in the back 40, put it there and slowly strip it. you will be $$$ ahead in the long run.

That's what I was thinking, most of the stuff I'll eventually use. One of the things I could see myself needing is the front windshield. Seems like all the vehicles we have get cracked at some point (txdot thinks it's a good idea to put rock down then oil it 2 weeks later). If things don't workout on getting the whole truck (wife ) what do ya'll think I should offer for seats (he has them listed at $150), exhaust system, tach sendor, tach, and last but not least transmission and all that I need to swap my truck over to zf (drive shaft, etc..) He is the one that said $1,000 for whole truck he also said he'd rather keep and didn't think it was worth 1,000 but if I could use it all he'd sell it. I haven't known of many auto salvagers around here to do anybody any favors but I have to take him for his word. The truck had an insurance card in it with previous owners name, I'm in the process of trying to locate him and ask condition of trans and other parts. It was registered, inspected, and insured up until August of last year.

I don't know about your inspectors where you're at, but in Hamilton county it's a joke. He's even slapped a pass sticker across a cracked windshield. He was being a pill on one of my lights due to the fact I won't write a speeding ticket, but I'm sure to find something else to write you up on

Go buy the truck bring it home and tell the wife " SURPRISE!" Dont ask permission, Ask forgiveness after the fact.

Seriously tho, just get the entire truck adn take wheat you need, part out the rest adn your old parts, No reason to leave the T19 in your truck Get it out so it can be sold. Make a video of it shifting in your truck if you need to.
