I have a 1983 Chevy K30 crewcab that I have owned since HS, about 15 years lol. The TH400 is statring to slip in first gear only after 463K the T400 is original, never rebuilt, wondering if there is a way to make a 4L80 work. Any help would be appreciated. TIA. BTW I rebuilt the engine 230K ago last I had the heads off and in decent condition about 50K last year probably re-ring and wing it. Otherwise it looks like its time for an OD.

Do some shopping in the towing, or street rodding world. You should be able to find a stand-alone transmission controller.

the 4L80E is a THM400 with electronics and overdrive. Only difference is GM learned not to copy ford by making the 4L80E bulletproof. The same people who make the Bauminator for the E40D, makes a kick-ass unit for the 4L80E and has the same fully adjustable parameters. You will need to source a wiring harness from Painless wiring or whoever.

Thanks, this is exactly what I wanted to hear, now to find a 4L80 that I can stuff a NP205 behind. Was it 90-91 3500's that had them?
