Last time I filled the rear axle the fill plug tried to strip out on me on the way out. I would like to replace it before it completely strips in my axle. I figure its a pipe plug of some sort, anyone know what size? I'm pretty sure I have a sterling 10.25 on the truck.

Best bet is to replace the rear cover. You can fit one from a newer Superduty or so I'm told. There is a tech article on this. Get the bigger finned alluminum cover and enjoy an upgrade at the same time.

I thought the sterling's plug was on the housing, not the cover....?

1/2" NPT comes to mind, but i can't swear by it...

Matrix your on mark it's on the drivers side top of housing the best an only way I reccomend that you use a 1/2 extension an use that to unscrew the nut. You can just upgrade to a newer pan but mag tech for about 249$ the ford aluminum has no port. Theag has a temp port to that's what I would do. Or get a new plug from for for about 50$ I think.

Is it the square drive inside that's stripping?

If it is infact pipe thread, a plug from the local hardware store would be a couple bucks and have a square drive that sticks out to put a wrench on..
