Really intermittant wipers

Hello all i have a wiper problem with my truck as stated above. i have intermittant wipers and have pulled the cap from the stem and looked at the connections and they look good are there any more deeper down? my wipers like to work intermittantly when they want, if i bump the switch a little they will come back, for a short time. i was wondering i hear a relay or somthing clicking under the dash when i bump the switch. anybody know what it is and where? could this be my problem? the motor seems fine i dont have to touch that at all.

If you look a little deeper in the dash there is a black box plugged into the back of the switch that then plugs into the wiring harness for the truck. It contains a little circuit board with notoriously bad solder joints. If you carefully resolder all the connections on this board you will probably find your problem. I had this happen to me about five years ago and the fix seem permenent. Some have theorized that releasing the parking brake without using your foot to slow down the pedal springing up, may agravate this. I'm not sure but I do the foot on the pedal trick to avoid it slamming the dash every morning Good luck!

hhhhmmmm you say black box in the back of the switch, is this for switches on the dash? mine is on the column, would i still have this black box down there? is is obvouse where it is, when will santa be here? so many questions ....thanks.

No, '92+ have a whole different system than the '80-'91. Very common to just swap the multifunction switch. 70bucks at ford or you can try your luck with a junkyard piece.

I had the same thing happen to my truck, I replaced the black box, behind the glove box, and it changed nothing. As I had changed the motor about a year before the problem I ruled out the motor. What I found was the connection on the motor was not making good contact, I took it looses and cleaned it good and put some of the electoral grease on it and has worked for over a year.
