Popping out exhuast.

Well I seem to have a new problem. A few times this week when I went to start the truck up for the first during the day I'm getting a popping out of the exhaust. It seems to clear up after a few minutes and only does it when its cold but still has me worried. Its a very noticeable popping and its not doing it every time I start it. Its only happened two times so far. Truck also seems to run normal after its warmed up. I could take a video of it if need be.

Collapsing lifter maybe? I'd pull a valve cover and do a complete inspection on the engine when cold.

Injector bleeding down possibly. After it sits over night, start it and check the temps of the cylinders at the exhaust manifold. The cold exhaust port will be your missing cylinder/s. If you narrow it down to a specific cylinder, the following morning pull that injector and see if it's soaked with fuel. You can pull an adjacent injector for comparison. if your not able to narrow it down to a specific cylnder you could pull all the injectors to look for the wet one.

Well started the truck today and the temperature was in the mid 30s. It did not pop once today.

I was reading about lifter leak down and it seem the weight of the oil may have something to do with it. It mentioned that the oil being cold may not be able to pump up the lifters that leaked down over night. Said that a heavy oil would cause this when cold. Its been below 20 degrees here lately so I'm thinking and hoping that just may be it.

As far as the injectors goes, they are a new set of remaned BB codes I put in back in the summer but I'm not ruling them out as the cause.

I know the truck is over due for an IP if thats a possible cause. Mine keeps the valley pan wet and I notice the effects of a worn timing cam. Its also leaking down over night causing hard starts.

I notice this with my truck too. When I start it first thing in the morning when its below freezing, it will run rough and make a bunch of smoke for about 10 seconds then it will "pop" a few times and smooth out and the smoke goes away.

mine don't exactly make a pop but if i start it and it barely runs without throttle, it will shake and white smoke like crazy for about 30sec and then it will do this thing where i guess more fuel is added and it will send about two small puffs of black smoke out with the white and then it smooths out.
