Hello, I'm now a new member here on the site...but not new to the IDI's! I've decided to come join over here because the IDI Rally looks like an AWEOMSE event! I read the thread and it's located in PA this year. Holy crap, I'm gonna be in Bloomsburg, PA visiting my Mom's side of the family for a family reunion that same weekend...an hour away from the Rally! I know it's too late to sign up, and I can't exactly attend since it's our own family reunion weekend...but I'd love to attend a future event! Some background on myself. I'm the same username over on Ford Trucks in the IDI section. My daily driver is an 85 F350 long wheelbase cab and chassis that I converted over to single rear wheels with some shiny aluminum wheels off a '97. I cut grass for a living....self-employed with a start-up landscaping business that my IDI is the heart and soul of I'm currently in the process of bulding truck #2. I'm transplanting my 1965 F350 body onto a 95 F150 shortbed chassis and converting over to 4x4. Being an oddball and wanting to prove the TTB-haters wrong, I want to run the TTB front end for a nice ride. I'm also going to build my own 6' flareside bed and run dual 4" stacks on the outside of the bed, where the step would be. I'm also going to try and build a custom turbo setup for this truck with the up-pipes routed like a Powerstroke. I'd like to build a light-weight truck that can pull trailers but still smoke most everybody else. Especially the friggin pretty boys with Mommy and Daddy's D-max's. I saw this video on youtube and fell in love with the truck in the 3rd race on the closer side of the track. I think the truck you're referring to is the "nightmoose". Its a 2wd F150 running 3.55 gears, 5 speed tranny and 7.3 IDI. So far as we know, it is the mileage king of IDIs.

Nice to know I'm not alone in liking TTB.

Not sure if I'll ever be able to attend the IDI rally but the videos that come out are a treat for those of us that can't be there.

Holy crap, there's a lot of FTE guys floating in over here. Sweet! I just read a couple threads about the NightMoose truck. Holy friggin crap! That sounds exactly like what I'm heading for with this '65 project I've been yacking about. And to boot, his rig is N/A. Wow, I'm very impressed! Aside from the body being different years, I was also going to try for a body lift like the NightMoose, and mine will be 4x4. Wow, I'm LOVING this Nightmoose!

Ahh, we've got some TTB lovers over here. Awesome! If the 6.9 chews up the 8.8 rear while snow plowing or running the truck pulls...I'll be going to a Dana 50/10.25 combo and making the front Dana 50 coil-sprung.

You'll find a lot of us on both forums and the combined wealth of IDI knowledge cannot be beat between the two. The friendly atmosphere is also very good on both sides without any rivalry what so ever that I can detect.

Mel is the admin over here and the nightmoose is a project he did with his son. Mel also arranged to have my injector pump rebuilt into the "moose pump". The results they were able to pull out of that little pickup is what made me start thinking about dropping a 6.9 in my F150. Probably won't have the time for it but still, it shows that an over powered diesel can indeed get great MPGs. I suspect the lack of a turbo isn't actually hurting the MPGs in such a light setup but I can't prove it.

Its that kind of out of the box thinking that I love about the IDI crowd.

Well, I feel like my smile is gonna stick permanently! I'm still trying to figure out the forum format...assuming there is a way to use the User CP for an album like on FTE...probably need a certain amount of posts first. No biggie, that'll happen soon enough!
That's awesome about Mel and his son, what a great result they have of their work! Turns out he's only 5 hours from me, holy crap, that's sweet. AND, he's only 3 hours away from my extended family down in PA. Seems like when we head down to PA each summer for vacation with my Mom's side of the family, I might just have to go say HI! once I've got this '65 pieced together.
Turns out the curb weight for a 95 F150 short wheelbase is 3,885 according to this site. http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1990-to-1996-ford-f-150-250-pickup-6.htm Of course that doesn't specify which engine they are using to figure the curb weight. So a tad over 4k pounds of truck with a powerful 6.9....that Nightmoose must FLY with a moose pump!
