Need some advice regarding gasoline in diesel.

I was looking for a front d60 and came across a complete truck fairly cheap. It's an '83, f350, ATS turbo. He says it has low miles, and ran great before the gas station pumped gas into it. What all could have nuked with the gas in there? I was thinking about making him an offer.. see if I could get it cheap and sell the turbo kit... and snag a free d60. The body is beat to hell.

The seals in the fuel system, the fuel hoses, possibly the IP and lift pump (not sure on the lift pump).

If it is cheap enough, who cares what the gas has done. Steal the turbo, D60, trans, and what ever other parts you need and recycle the rest. No brainer!

I'm thinking I can snag it for around $500. If the turbo feels tight I will probably take it. I've been wanting to rip the ttb out for awhile now, and if I can do it for almost free, why not! I was just wondering if the gas would crack a head or something.. I could use spares.

1983 F350 did NOT come from the factory with a D60. It should have a Dana 50 TTB and Dana 70 rear. For $500, you could easily make your money back on the turbo alone.

But i do believe the D60 was an option, just because it wasnt standard with one doesnt mean that particular truck wasnt ordered with one. My uncle has a 79 F250 with D60's front and back from the factory.

So it couldnt have been an ordered option ??

Even still, someone couldve stuck one in there later. I think it would be very dumb to mistake a Twin I beam for a D60.

although I don't know "homelessduck" as a personal friend, I do know him well enough from his posts that he can tell the difference between a TTB D50 vs. a solid D60. give him a little credit. Most hardcore F350 4x4 guys got rid of the TTB setup the moment they got a chance to so it's not that big of a stretch the axle got converted.
as far as the gas in concerned, the worst you can do is ruin a IP and injectors. if you do bend and burn, do not exceed 10% of the total blended volume.

The 83 is an interesting motor to have as a spare. Strong point is the lower compresion thanks to slightly different heads, weak point was that casting defect around the block heater freeze plug. Many times they don't ever crack especially if the block heater was not used. I'd love to have an 83 if I could justify another truck(can't right now) it was the Ford diesel that started it all.

His original post doesnt say that he has looked at the truck, and it doesnt even sound like he has seen it, but would go either way.

Unless its a built up truck, and it doesnt sound like it, I would be on the TTB still being in there.

With the price of scrap right now, purchasing the truck cheaply is a no-brainer if you have room for it. Didn't they still use Dana for rear ends in 83? If so, that has value too. As for gas in the engine, it really depends on how much and for how long it was driven. Gas detonates at a lower compression than diesel. Worst case the engine bent/threw a rod or melted a piston. Best case it runs with fresh diesel. The owner probably thinks or knows the engine is toast so offer accordingly. I'd offer $400 and let him work me to $500 or whatever you think is fair.

That is a whole other truck......IIRC it used a low pinion D60...but it should still be driver side drop, reverse cut gears.

If it does have a D60 Homeless, you can't go wrong!! I did a D60 swap, and the difference is astonishing! I LOVE it.

Im interested in the swap for my 86 but it seems complicated. I dont have time to let me truck sit, if i could knock it out in a full day or weekend it would be nice. does the motor have to come out ?

the motor stays in you just take your old axle out and put the d60 in. its a nice day project
