A few weeks back, I posted about a truck that my brother inlaw in St. George Ut bought for 900 bucks.

I have been up there a couple times to do some work on it and it runs really well but, it is leaking around a gallon of oil a week and this morning they discovered that his bell housing is cracked, the motor also has alot of blowby.

His truck is an 86 F250 4x4 with the T-19 4 speed, does anyone have a bell housing they could sell him?

Also, he wants to go ahead and find a used motor for it and there doesnt seem to be anything available in the St. George area. Anyone have a lead on a good used one?

He needs this truck for his business to support his family and needs to get it fixed soon. I'm willing to loan him my truck while his is down but first we need to find a motor. Thanks

First, why and where is it leaking all that oil? If it's running well, it may be something (like the oil cooler, rear main, valve cover gaskets) that can be fixed without replacing the entire engine.

Second, why did the bellhousing break. Have to wonder if there is something causing misalignment of the trans to the block. Finding a used one can be hard. Just looked at eBay and there aren't any listed. They do come up there from time to time. Might be easier/faster to find the stuff to put a ZF5 in there. Hard to say.

I wish I could help you out more.

I really appreciate the help Heath. He was told when he bought the truck that the trans had been rebuilt, so I dont know where and how things got screwed up. I think the guy that sold him the truck, talked a lot of BS.

The engine leaks like hell and when I was there last, it looks like it's leaking from the rear seal, valve covers, heads and the dipstick mount is missing that secures it to the valve cover, so it wobbles around and leaks also. It also has no CDR valve, just the hose going from the valve cover to the old ATS air cleaner and I know that needs to be properly fixed.

The motor appears to have quite a bit of blowby but I figured as long as we went ahead and fixed all the leaks, replaced head gaskets, put new O rings in the oil cooler and replaced the valve seals, that it would run for hopefully a couple more years.

I am more than willing to pull it and fix it but now we have the bell housing issue to worry about.

If you want to test-drive the motor first, I have one here. comes with a wrapper though. IE....if you buy the motor, you get the wrapper.
1986 F250 ext cab 4x4. good 7.3. body a little battered. bad part. C6 with 4.10 rear and front. motor is screaming down the freeway. $1800 will get you the motor, wrapper and a t18/19 bellhousing.
Truck used to be mime, buddy bought it from me and got busted a month afterwards. He's in club Fed right now and won't need a set of wheels for a very long time. Took me a year to get the title from him.
for the rest of the curious, the price is for Vegas39 only. I am mindful of the fact he went through hell with his truck a year ago and still didn't lose faith. That has to account for something.

Depending on what he's using the truck for, he could purchase another truck from Uhaul fleet sales for right around $1300. This is for a running box truck with excellent maintenance records, probably new tires, and no major defects. IIRC, they are F350's with 14-17ft boxes. Just a thought...

being an owner of a commercial fleet, having had motorpool vehicles assigned to me, and driven more than my share of rental vehicles, there's a reason why those cars are well maintained. It's because the drivers will treat them like a rented mule. granted, the IDI motor can take on excessive amounts of abuse, it's lifespan is shortened nevertheless. i'm not saying a private vehicle is treated better, but if it has survived this long and still looks decent and runs decent, chances are it has been treated pretty good throughout it's life.
