hey im new here, this is my first ford diesel long story short i got it from my brother at a deal to good to pass up.
1993 ford f250 7.3 idi 4x4 four door short bed automatic eod with a ati turbo kit
My concern/ question: my voltage guage and tach are not working, trans is going straight to overdive it feels like. If i pull it down into first and shift up to second its fine then when i put it in drive position im pretty sure it goes stright to overdrive again. the trans is rebuilt with probably 500 miles, turbo has even less.
tach reads zero, voltage is pegged toward zero.
i have seen where it could be the tach sensor or even the relay will cause the problem but i havent seen anyone else have the problem with the voltage gauge at the same time.
im going to check fuses during lunch if there is anywhere else i should start my diag please let me know
Any and all helped is apprecaited.

Welcome to the forum. Most tach problems are the sending unit. This sender is found on top just to the drivers side of the injection pump. It has 2 black wires in it and an easy disconnect plug. Figure about $65.00 on ebay for this. Sometimes the wires become bare or the magnetic pickup gets dirty. Removing the sender can sometimes fix the tach issue by wiping it clean. Sometimes you just bite the bullet and replace it.

Not trying to be a complete rookie but what do you mean sticky section?

The sticky posts are located at the beginning of this section of the forum, the 6.9 and 7.3 forum. As you go from the main index to the 6.9 and 7.3 forum, you'll find them at the top.

The other section you really must be familiar with is the TECH ARTICLES, which has a link in the same area. You'll find a wealth of information here if you hunt a bit. In fact, there is more and better knowledge here than you will find at virtually any Ford dealer.

Bad Tach sensor will trip and pretty much set an O/D light causing the transmission to shift strange or worse case not shift at all . Pretty much it reports the signal to the transmission module.

Also like the other member said , Go under the truck by the Passenger side and make sure that your transmission cable is connected securely to the solenoid Pack . Loose , dirty or broken wire can cause major issues with these transmissions

My guess with the voltage gauge would be either a faulty gauge or bad signal but i could be wrong, Specially if you know for fact that you charging system output is correct , I am sure other members could pin point it

thank you all for your replys and help. i replaced the sending unit with no change so i rechecked the fuses and i didnt see the break at the very top the other day. It fixed it i drove it around drove great, that was yesterday. Today i started up before i went to work i let it idle then as soon as i got back in it to head to work it cut off and wouldnt start back up no smoke coming from exhuast just kept turning over. I would feather the throttle and it would try to start and smoke alittle but thats it.

What break did you find .. ?

If you crack one of the nuts on top of the injectors are you seeing fuel coming out ..? If no fuel there back track to the filter , Loosen the filter and see if it's full if not you might have a bad lift pump

The fuse was broken. Ok thank you I will start with that after work.
i just wanted to add that the gauge reads little over 1/4 tank.
i am more of a carbuerator guy because they are easir to work on and diagnose, i am always up for a challenge though.
