now we have a 97 7.3 that easly reves higher but its a newer style

so anybody have any ideas or is that what it just goes to ?

you have the IH uhaul pump on the motor. it's governed at 2800rpm.
if you put a ford pickup pump on there, you'll find all that missing rpm.
if you need convincing, I have a couple of used pickup pumps and you can experiment with one.

Calvin beat me to it, but it sounds like you have a IH medium duty spec injection pump on there with the lower RPM govenor.

A Ford spec pump (like stated above) will give you more RPM.

Thank you

wow That was fast! I always Thought it was perhaps a replacement engine since it never preformed like a pickup I have to shift to second before crossing a street ! But It pulls Great Just sometimes wish it had a few more RPM for that " gee I could make the top of that grade without slowing if I had more rpm " But overall it seems to work ok with The GV in there at 60 in OD im pulling 1200 rpm ( I dont Haul anything at that rpm Though) Usualy Like to Keep it around 1400-1500 if I can ( Is That too low? ) seems to get about 15MPG no matter what Im dooing . I had a Big Tank out back so Its been awhile since Iv had a wallet thick enough to say " Fill her up"

My hauling days are over so Iv built a Flatbed to haul my Alaskan 10' NCO Camper Took out the Big Tank and will be using Stock ones - I did love that 1500 mile Range Though .

Thanks again for the help Id Take you Up on the pump offer if I was brave enough to Change one out myself. I should as I seem to have a miss or something it never seems smoth ( Iv owned two other 6.9's in the past ) and we have a 97 7.3 here at work That feels car smothe at speed - so perhaps its time to look at the injectors as well .

OK Im Taking up too much space

Thanks again

Chuck, don't worry about changing the pump out yourself. It's really not a bad job and there is an excellent fuel injection service article in the IDI Tech section. The only thing with that article is a reference to a 16 point bolt head. He ment to type 12 point bolt head.

Plus, if you have any questions along the way, just ask and we'll walk you through it.
