Looking at a 94 factory turbo idi crew cab 4x4 the guy wants 3k for it it's in good shape but it has 300k on it. Blow by isn't bad and it has the auto trans. Reason for looking into it is my 12 valve blew the trans this morning. so I'm just looking for a truck to put my slip tank in the back for work til I get my new trans for the dodge. Questions is will the trans hold up for 3 months in it? Anything I should watch for with the trans when I go to test drive it?

Check the fluid. See if it smells burnt. Also how off color is it? After it's warmed up check the fluid level.

See how it shifts on your test drive after it warms up. Mine smooths out a good bit when warm vs cold.

How heavy is your slip tank?

If it's heavy make sure there is a good transmission cooler assuming everything else checks out. Heat is the enemy.

My E4OD has been abused by me. Got it as hot as 280 getting up square bales once. At that temperature fluid started coming out around the front seal. Still works fine and doesn't leak at normal operating temperatures. Put almost 10k on it in the last year.

I would ask if the transmission has ever been replaced on it. I would be surprised if it's still rocking its original E4OD at 300k miles, the early ones aren't exactly known for their reliability. The updated version is much better, so if it's been replaced before and the fluid in it looks good, you're probably in good shape.
