My 87 6.9 NA has been giving me hard cold starting recently. Nothing horrible but 2-3 tries plus giving it throttle. Warm has been fine. I was blaming the glow plug harness but today it wouldn’t start beyond stuttering with the starter going. It’s not cold enough to justify it in terms of glow plugs.
Upon fuel line inspection, I found dripping at the injection pump, at the steel line from fuel filter head. Aka the olive.
Doing my research on here, part 50385K83 comes up but that seems to be the only part number I ever see. Is that really it? I guess you buy at least two considering how much shipping they probably charge.
For now, loosening the connection, then tightening it down a bit more than it was before, has stopped the leak. I’m recharging my batteries at the moment from excessive cranking so I haven’t gotten it started yet.
I do have fuel at the filter head, it squirts from the valve with the electric pump on. So it’s apparently air intrusion into the injection pump.
Edit: yep after just enough charging and 3 rounds of cranking plus a little throttle it fired up. So yeah I will be replacing it. Just wondering if that’s the one and only source for the seal.
