ignition question

hi guys I have a question. This has got me baffled my truck started to not want to start with the key again so I went under the steering column made sure that the electric switch was slid all the way to the front so the rod would make contact. I noticed that when I bolted everything back up it did not want to start with the Key however when I drop the steering column down it wants to work with the Key? Does it sound like my electric ignition switch is bad. Thank you

Probably gets out of adjustment again or the top connection "hook" is cracked/broke.

I did notice when I pulled it down some that it looked like it had a little bit of play in it

How my manual say's for adjustment.
When installing the ignition switch, both the locking mechanism at the top of the column and the switch it self must be in the lock position.for correct adjustment.
To hold the mechanical parts of the column in LOCK position, move the lever into the PARK position for automatic, turn the key to LOCK position, and remove the key. Engage the actuator rod in the switch, must be inserted in the slot of the sliding, black carrier, Position the switch on the column and install the two nuts, do not tighten them.
Move the switch up and down on the column to locate the mid position of rod lash. tighten the two nuts (top nut first to minimize rod binding, torque to 40 - 65 in lb. A new lock comes with a lock pin, remove after install.
