I wanna make my own engine stand.

I am thinking about making my own engine stand out of some drill pipe that we have laying around. Anybody got any ideals? What the dimensions are between the holes on the Engine Stand Plate where the Engine gets bolted into? I am guessing the Dimensions are Universal because then they would have to make a Engine Stand for each type of Engine. I need it for my 6.9 but I want to be able to put any engine on it. I really want it to be overkill.

For the plate on the stand, just cut a pretty big square or rectangle piece of 3/8'' with horizontal and vertical slots. You can design the rest, its easy. As long as you have those slots in there, its pretty much universal

Overkill is a good idea with these engines. The first time my granddad and I rebuilt a 7.3, we had to beef up his engine stand.

1000 lbs of iron and steel will really do a number on those Harbor Freight light duty stands...

How well can you weld is an important question. What diameter pipe are you going to use and whats the wall thickness... Metal thickness means nothing if a weld fails and someone gets hurt...

I can weld pretty good. I will have help from someone that can weld better than me.

Dry weight, I thought these things weighed around 1200#. I definately felt like i was overloading mine, so I cut up an old axle ahft to prop the engine up on the front side. And sometimes just helped it out with the hoist
