How do you tell

How can a person tell if a 7.3 IDI non turbo is the high altitude or regular model engine? Just curious cant tell by the owners manual the valve covers it list the power of both engines but I dont know if I have the 166 hp or 185 hp engine????? And I cant find the info anywhere. Thanks.:dunno

your resluts may vary, but on mine, the id tag on the valve cover has a missing spot(allmost like a hole punch) behind the engine identifer.

As you can see my tag is also "hole Punched" just as diesel4me2 tag is punched,

I'll post my turbo tag ASAP just for kicks n giggles.

Once you turn the fuel screw or replace the IP, all bets are off! The "engine" per say is all the same. It's just the calibration of the pump that determines what hole they punch.

Hey thanks , I looked at my passenger valve cover but it is a little dirty, But I already cranked the pump all the way up, but my pump is bad anyhow still wont smoke the tires when I try to do a brake torque my gearin is 3.55, And doesnt blow black untill you put the pedal through the floor.
