Hooking Fuel Tanks Together?

I'm currently in the middle of a gas to diesel conversion (see sig), and am curious if anyone has any input on linking the 2 fuel tanks together. If seen that many before me have done it, but is it a good idea? My main concern would be that the rear tank is higher than the front, so it would be completely drained well before you ran low on fuel in the front tank. Seeing that there is a pickup tube in the tank, will running the tank dry really suck up all the crap sitting at the bottom of the tank?

maybe one of the tank equalizer systems for a set of saddle tanks on a ATV or motorcycle???

Isn't there an IP return line that runs to one of the tanks? If it runs to the rear tank (or could be made to run there), you will always have fuel in the rear tank.

There is a return line for each tank. They're switched by the selector valve just like the feed lines. Maybe feed line off front tank, return line to the rear tank?

the pick ups are on the bottom of the tanks, you're always sucking off of the bottom.

as per russ---anddddd, if you just feed off of the front tank-and put a line from the rear tank thats not part of the selector valve--it would feed the front tank. but then also--you may have to reroute the vent of the front tank up higher--or fuel may overflow out of the front tank,from pressure from rear tank------------the new line from the rear tank--could be teed into the feed line to the front tank,but--when the rear ran empty, youd be puliing air--so, the easyst? way--is to feed the line into the tank fill tube---take it out--and soft solder a brass fitting into the side of the filler neck, and hook to rear tank. and even that may present a problem, as the tank is vented--and fuel may come out the fill cap-----------when i started to burn wmo--i had to stop filling the front tank i ran off,when the gauge read full---wife forgot to switch it off,as she was nervous driving 80 thru chicago,,,,,guess where the excess oil came out-----mess down whole side of truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeccchh

Without using a selector valve and extra electric pumps, the only way to tie the two tanks together is mount a line on the bottom of each tank to tie the two together and make them one big tank.

I did this awhile back and it works great. I pull off the front (the lower tank) and return to the rear.
