Hey guys,

I'm a regular on superdutydiesel, but need some help with my bro's truck.

Its a 2001 F150 Supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4 V8. Yesterday, my brothe was driving it and said it started to shake really bad from a stop up to about 20mph and then again around 40 up to 50. The engine does not miss, but the whole thing just shakes and makes a terrible grinding noise.

I know that there is a leak on the rear diff cover, and I can tell that fluid has leaked out. Is there a chance that nearly all the fluid has leaked out and is not causing the grinding noise? I've gotta pull the cover off and replace the fluid, but what else could this be? He also said the CEL came on yesterday. Is there anything back there that would set a code? Only thing I can think of is the VSS, but im not sure why it would do that.

Any help/advice would be appreciated!

My boss had and 01 supercab that did the same exact thing from 0-20.
Came to find out that the rear end was toasted and had to be replaced.
Might be worth pulling the diff cover since it's already leaking and sneak a peek.
