Well that sucks big time. But not to Pollyana it much. At least the heads can stay on the block this time. Please make sure you do this one thing on tear down. Remove this one lifter and inspect it before you remove any others. No telling what might be found in it. If when you have it opened and are not sure what you found simply remove another good working lifter to compare. Hell even open up a used lifter you know what running fine from the original engine.

Soak new lifter in bucket oil over night too....plungjng it now n then...harder with rollers but used stick set liglfters in light synth oil...work plungers every so often...

It's more of a pain in the ass than anything. Very easy job that only takes about an hour at the most.
Seller wants me to send him the lifter so he can inspect it & then send it to manufacture if its defective. Guess he used to run a mechanic shop and those are overstock he decided to sell on eBay. Says he's used many of the same brand lifters for years & never had problems with them. Really ready to stop working on this engine. This hobby truck is not a hobby anymore lol.

New lifter came in yesterday. Assembled engine this morning and took her for a test drive. All is well with the engine and no more ticking bs. Now transmission is acting up. Not shifting into third and have to manually shift into second for it to engage. This C6 has about 500 miles on it & still under warranty so it's back in shop. They are thinking it's either a vacuum or governor is sticking. Will know more later today.

Got truck back from shop. Guess the VRV bumped itself out of adjustment. All good now!

Careful with that VRV. They can be hard to find these days. Not sure but I heard they were no longer made... Anyone confirm this no longer made item???

Gary, I do have a spare for this very reason. From what I have heard most recently, this is an item that is no longer made. I tried to buy another one to have on hand & it was a no go.

These VRV valves are found on many wrecking yard Ford product engines. When I shop pic n pull yards I take these when I find them. No longer available spare parts are good spar parts. I don't have a need for them but others do. At the 2009 rally I tried to give away 3 of these to those with C6 trans but no takers.. I'm betting those that had this offer would take one now...

Well here's a little update. Truck had been running great until I noticed that dreaded tick was back. This time it only ticks when the engine gets up to operating temp and oil thins out. I also tried a bottle of sea foam in engine oil which did nothing. Pulled valve covers off and noticed I had a rocker arm that was looser than the rest so I replaced them all yesterday thinking that was the root cause of the noise.....which it wasn't.
I am kicking myself for not replacing them all when I knew one lifter had collapsed. Sooooo, got truck all apart this morning and taking those **** lifters out and putting them in dumpster if eBay seller doesn't give me a refund on them. There is a good side to all of this, I can now work on this engine in my sleep lol.

Well once again this news really sucks & blows at the same time. Hang in there. You are finally about finished with it for good. Wish I had something better to say but really feel bad for you because I recall someone posted to change all the lifters because of how deep you have to go getting to them.

It will be going again before long. Yes, should have scrapped them last time but it only takes me an hour to get lifters out lol. A little longer to assemble but it's an easy job. Thank the lord I haven't had to take the heads off again. Torquing those babies down in frame is one hell of a workout.

Well the saga continues. Bought a new set of lifters from eBay. Lifters were enginetech and supposed to be made in USA which I am fine with. They make great products when they are MADE IN USA. Every enginetech problem I have ever had is when there products are made in Mexico....just like the pushrods I bought a while ago. Well sure enough, these lifters are made in Mexico and look like absolute ****. Machining is garbage, rollers are sloppy, there are nicks on machined surfaces that are supposed to be smooth, etc. Never seen lifters that are made so crudely. I refuse to put that **** in my engine and am currently trying to find a set in my area. Napa has them for $23 apiece, sealed power. Absolute ripoff but I may order them and see how they look out of the box.
